Library Finds and a Thought...

I have recently had some good fortune in my local library trolling for music. Here are some of the albums I've picked up at my local library, many of them I have never heard, but have read about them in Mog posts by you people:Bruce Springsteen - Darkness on The Edge of TownHarry Nilsson - Nilsson Schmilsson (remaster)Moby Grape - Moby GrapeMy Morning Jacket - ZSifgur Ros - Takk...The Mountain Goats - The Sunset TreeWoody Gutherie - The Asch Recordings vol. 4Art Brut - Bang Bang rock n' RollArcade Fire - Neon bibleOzomatli - Street SignsThe Black Keys - Magic PotionThe Kaiser Chiefs - EmploymentThe Decemberists - PicaresqueThis leads me to a thought. I looked on emusic tonight and saw that the cheapest subscription was $9.99 a month. Could you imagine how much music (and books too) could be available to your average citizen if you donated $120 a year to your local library? I mean I love Mog for the artists it turns me onto, but the library is where it's at in offering me the proper music listening situation. With all the things that get cut budget wise now a days, education and culture always seem to be the things that suffer the most. So think about it next time you buy that third album this month, maybe if we all contributed in this small way, we could have great libraries that actually reflected the vibrant culture of arts that is out there, but a little out of the peripheral of a lot of people. If this seems a little unrealistic, how about donating some of your old CD's instead of getting the two dollars you might be lucky to get at your local used CD store. Who knows, if you weren't into that new Editors album, maybe it will be the greatest album some one else has ever heard.
***Update***
Wow, this really makes my Monday morning seeing the positive feed back to this suggestion. So here's my plan. I have about 1000 CD's, and due to the wonders of technology, I have all of them on my hard drive, so they sit in boxes, where they rarely get listened to (technically). My wife is pregnant, and nesting instinct is in high gear, and it is a sore subject (the thought of slimming down my collection, yet again). They do take up precious space, and I don't blame her for wanting to free us of a little more clutter. So, Since the library has been so good to me, I am going to return the favor and make a donation of some of my CD's to them (one step at a time, as I said, this is very hard since I am very attached to my collection). So in the interest of diplomacy on the marital front, and a need to make a do something for myself that has meaning, I will document this further and post the results.
