Father's Day Cover - Cowboy Junkies "My Father's House

Posted over 2 years ago
Here's a beautiful (and even playful) cover of Bruce Springsteen's "My Father's House" by The Cowboy Junkies. "Nebraska" is my favorite Springsteen Album, hands down. There is a sparseness and loneliness that pervades every inch of it. Margo Timmins has one of the most effective voices when it comes to subject matter and music such as this.

  1. Lizziegreeneyes says Don't discount her brothers, specially Michael - that guy may seem so introverted on stage, I think it's because he is so much in the music - he can do nothing more than play. I sat front row right in front of him - it was one of the best experiences - Margo is sheer perfection, don't get me wrong, but to be that close to the songwriter of their music... he is one of the most amazing artists to watch, most enigmatic & way underrated.

  2. contrabandwidth says oh no, I'd never discount them. Their rendition of "Sweet Jane" is almost better than the original (almost), and I like that they make it their own. Their one of those groups who just have their own sound. I heard them interviewed on Fresh Air, and Margo wouldn't listen to the recordings (older) they were playing of their music, because she said that those songs had gotten to such a different place, live. I thought that was so profound, that she was still evolving artistically, and didn't want to try to reference where she had been already. I'm not super familiar with their work, but I like what I've heard, and after that interview, I had a new respect for them.

  3. Lizziegreeneyes says Best part of the first time I saw them live - Everyone fell under her spell & fell in love with her - husbands & wives staring longingly. I was there with my Mum - I played a few songs of theirs from Lay it Down & that was it - Mum went out & purchased EVERY album of theirs. But it was the last time seeing them that I watched that man in action, & Margo tease him lovingly saying that he may not say much on stage - but as soon as they get back to the tourbus - he throws in a Deadwood disc & starts to cussing... I was ALWAYS in love with Margo - but seeing him that night - he rose to one of my favorite artists to watch play, I hardly looked at Margo - he stole my attention all night. I guess I digs me some shy boys ;)
