YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

A less political side of Phil Ochs...

Posted over 2 years ago
Phil Ochs was a contemporary of Bob Dylan. Dylan was once quoted as saying he wished he could write songs like Phil Ochs. This was the more political Dylan, the younger more naive one who hadn't yet seen the pigeon holing that accompanied being known as a "protest singer". Well we all know what happened to Dylan, but what, perchance, happened to Mr. Ochs. Well, Phil never really shook the label of being a 'protest singer" and his work continued being political as ever. He eventually "plugged in" and tried a more conventional route to the dismay of those fans that had latched on to his fierce political voice. Needless to say, Ochs' attempt at changing with the times was unsuccessful and he succumbed to his alcoholism and hung himself in 1976. Despite being a champion of the left, there are some songs he wrote that are timeless and profound no matter what your political bent, and this is one.
