Since my son is a little older now, we've been letting him watch some TV in the mornings. As I'm getting ready for work I often find myself stopping what I'm doing and getting sucked into Sesame Street. I have had no reason to watch it for many moons, but I am delighted by the many levels of humor that exist within it's frame work. The great thing is that my son can enjoy it, but there are some jokes that I find funny and he wont get for a long time. Unlike some of the newer programs that are insufferable for adults to watch, I feel entertained when watching the show.
If you are a person of great visibility probably the greatest thing next to being immortalized by The Simpsons, is to make an appearance on Sesame Street. Many a morning I've gotten dressed to Nora Jones singing to the letter "Y", or as the case was this morning The Squirrel Nut Zippers rearranging their song "Put A Lid On It" as a song about putting things on your head ("Put a squid on it...").
This reminded me that I must break out our Squirrel Nut Zipper CDs for my son to dance to. I looked for a clip of what I saw this morning on YouTube, but had no luck, so I'm posting this documentary I found instead. SNZ were a great band that were really different from the 100's of other bands that came out in the swing revival. The played a more New Orleans style of pre-war jazz sounding music that was infectious. I'll post some music later.
