WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Numerology In Song - Elvis Costello's "45"

Posted about 1 year ago

I remember an interview with Elvis Costello, where he talked about this song. He wrote it on his 45th birthday, and he said it just sorta spilled out of him, all the different contexts of the number. I think it was kind of a mid-life pondering on not being young, and not quite being old. Whatever the inspiration was, it's some of the finest crafted lyrics put to a catchy melody I have ever heard. This is one of my all tim favorites, and a great start to an album as well.

hah!  i hope a bunch of people i know listen to this one, man, although i think 50's the new 45.......

i hope there aren't a bunch of 78 year olds trying to turn it down to 45 or 33!!  my dad grew a beard, but that's about as far as it went.

True rock n' roll poetry if there ever was some!  "But the lyrics can't be heard, until you turn it down to 33 and 1/3."

I just love the 45, 4+5, 9 years later, stuff.  Just feels so effortless.

I guess now a days with software it would be more like, turn it down to 33,000.1 kHz a second.
