WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Steve Perry's Musical Manifesto - No, not that Steve Perry - the other one...

Posted about 1 year ago
I've had the great fortune to get involved in one of the best and most interesting dialogues I've had in a long time with none other than Steve Perry - of ??The Cherry Poppin' Daddies?? fame here on mog.
Steve Perry, or mclrgdrnk as he is known here on Mog, posted a musical "manifesto of sorts" that still has opened up some avenues of thought on listening to music.
Say what you will about the genre of 90's swing music - and I can probably be quoted of saying some snobbish remark or two, but, as you will read, mclgdrnk is no slouch in his knowledge of and intention with music. He is a very astute practitioner and aware of the importance of finding ones voice in a the borderless world that is music today. I've managed to shed any preconceived notions I had and learned something from his thoughts on music.
So stop on by mclgdrnk's site and give him a warm Mog welcome. I certainly look forward to his addition to the dialogue here on Mog and in his own posts!Welcome Steve!

  2. contrabandwidth says it was, it was. Like anything with potential, it got co-opted (as Steve put it) by neo conservatives - and in hindsight, that's probably what I don't like about it. the music was fun and upbeat and such a change of pace from both "alternative" and "gangsta rap".

  3. contrabandwidth says I admittedly have the habit of sometimes not liking a band or genre's fans (my biggest heartbreak to date was Phish - a band who I was an avid fan of, but whose "scene" became old and followers myopic.) color my perception of the music - which isn't fair to the musicians.
