Anna recommends Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard

Posted about 1 year ago

According to Mog's weekly music reccomendation, "Anna recommends Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard."
I would like to thank Anna for bringing this album to my attention, since I have not listened to it since I wore it out in 6th grade. It was a peculiar time in my musical development since I soon was on a steady diet of hair metal that was to last until "grunge" slapped me into my senses. Yes, I was one of the text book many whose musical focus was changed by Nirvana and their Seattle brethren. I soon realized that there was more to life then those pretty boys on the cover of ??Circus?? Magazine.
I of course am being a bit sarcastic here, since I read Anna's posts and being that Def Leppard is neither Artic Monkeys, Muse, or Interpol, I believe there was nary a reference to the mighty Def Leppard, nor their quasi-metal, radio friendly proletarian pop music. So is there something I should know, some dark secrets from Mog's "Queen of the Indy Scene"?
Just asking, ya know?

  1. bloodtea says some weeks ago (maybe months, can't recall it) she had the briliant idea to put that video as a comment on some post I made.. anyway, it sure brought a tear of joy to my eye.. so sweet, hah. Anna should receive some reward for bringing up stuff like this.

  2. Anna says ahhahahhahahahahaha oh mi god! Something tells me that if I felt shame, this would be the time to feel it. It is true. I have little to do with genre, but I have a special place in my heart for Pour Some Sugar On Me. No idea why. And it's been on repeat all this week. It's just epic. Yessssss! \mmmm/

  5. contrabandwidth says Oh, I loved it from my head to my feet. NASCARly yours? I don't know whether to be insulted or...well, I'm not really sure how to take that. I do like the word as an adverb though. Although NASCARely would be better, and be a little more self defining. It's always my pleasure to mash it up...

  6. funoka says This is a perfect song to drink beer - or "dring beer" to as I orignally typed - in your parents' garage, which is what I did when this came out. There's a big article on the status of hair bands in the Rolling Stone 2007 Yearbook edition. It's on newstands now, as they say. Many of these bands converged at something call Rocklahoma! in September. This event was news to me. It includes some interviews with your favorites including Skid Row, LA Guns, Dokken, Quiet Riot - just before the lead singer died in Vegas. An aside: they didn't find him for six days (?!) - more news to me, but then I just started mogging in Dec. Def Leppard and Bon Jovi were not there and some of the other bands had some interesting comments about the two biggies of the hair band genre. By the way, most of the bands do accept the "hair band" moniker these days.

  8. Dale says Holy cow, I guess I actually need to open the recommendations e-mails sometime, if for nothing more than shock value. Def Leppard?!? Anna?!? Did I get sucked into Bizarro World? Chucky's pushing Curve? WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? :::fetal position:::

  9. contrabandwidth says I know, other Mog recomendation oddities (with no ill will or spite aimed at those mentioned - just towards the Mog Machine that suggests these albums/songs): * kat3260 recommends Code Red by Tori Amos (Mog don't know me very well, do he?) * btlzu2 recommends Black by Pearl Jam (another album I wore out and can't listen too) * Ferryboy recommends Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles (Really? In 2007? After every commercial started having a Beatles song, their albums have begun to gather dust on my shelves.)

  11. chucky says I think the mog recommendation tool is more of a sneaky way for mog to embarrass us all. I've run across a few of my trusteds "recommending" what were probably their dirtiest little secret loves.
