Track:Wormhole - (studio)

So, the first official game of Wormhole! (beta) took place On Mog here. And I would like to thank these Moggers in order for their help and participation (directly or indirectly):SamTheArtist, Bartleby, Groon, DzendvokhFor their posts in the very first experimental stage of Wormhole! And these folks for their participation in the first official beta version of the game:brendanhalpin, TroyPowers, scottfree, lizziegreeneyes.
The winner of the first official beta version of Wormhole! was scottfree. scottfree is now the Grand Pupae and can start the next game with the track of his choice, and gets the honor of titling our new mix. I would like to collect tracks from those involved with the game and post the playlist on Multiply, so Mog Mail me w/ your Multiply ID and I'll add you as a contact. We'll figure a way to get the tracks up.
Here's a play by play rundown of what happened if you don't want to check out the post:CBW started things off with the tremolo happy, psychy Hurdy Gurdy Man by Donovan. brendanhalpin wasn't too sure if he understood the rules, but jumped in the game offering Husker Dü's cover of Donovan's Sunshine Superman CBW, always loving a theme to work off of scoured his brain (and iTunes) and played The Flaming Lips Waiting For Superman followed by Laurie Andersons O Superman (for Massenet) TroyPowers threw a little Kryptonite into the works with an offering from Big Boi CBW worked the Superman angle from the NBA's own Shaquille O'Neal featured on the Fu Schnicken's track What's Up, Doc TroyPowers responded by hitting us (while were down, no less) with a little K.O.B.E. (feat. Tyra Banks) CBW countered with zombie fighter/fifth elemental supermodel Milla Jovovich's foray into music The Gentleman Who Fell. TroyPowers, always the Gentleman, got us Intoxicated by German reggae artist Gentleman. scottfree threw his top hat in the ring with Robert Fripp and the League of Gentlemen's Dislocated. CBW responded I'm Finding It Hard To Be a Gentleman by being backed up by The White Stripes. Lizzie, being of noble blood, introduced us to another bunch of Gentlemen in the form of Gregg Dulli and The Afghan Whigs. To which CBW thought that Parliament ought to be involved and he called out The Whiggs who showed off some Violet Furs. At this point, scottfree hit us with an (as of yet) un-precedented 10 song run with:Psychedlic Furs Love My Way, Annie Lyon's LSD Blues, Effervescent Elephants LSD, Jim Dawson's Elephants in the Rain, Nils Lofgren's Grin Like Rain. Which led to Nils Lofgren with Neil Young on the (IMO) underrated Sample and Hold, and what would electronic music be without Kraftwerk and Trans Europe Express. Make sure you've got your walk man on so you can hear some Radio Free Europe from R.E.M. Alice Cooper is sure to remind you that Nothing Is Free. Especially Billion Dollar Baby's (featuring Donovan) scottfree then managed to return our wormhole to the surface with Donovan's Mellow Yellow.
Phew, what a ride! So many twists and turns. I can pretty much assure you you wont hear a mix like that anywhere but here on Mog. Keep your browsers refreshed and look for the next round, or start your own! Make sure you tag it and link back back to the original post.
Here are the revised rules (so far):
The premise is that were all contributing to a mix tape. I chose 12 tracks a player because I needed some limits to the game and I figure that's kind of the average tracks per CD that you buy. Some people playing will use up their 12 tracks before other players do, but the result will (hopefully) make for an interesting mix of music - bookended by the same artist. By playing as many tracks as you want will allow you to steer the direction of the mix which ever way you want.
If no player reaches the surface on the 12th track, you have to start a new game from the final song played.
How do you play a track off another players track? Well, Wormhole is a game or test of your true musical geekiness. You can use any of these 3 categories"Thematic - A song with similar theme or subject matterNames - Tracks that have the same name, but are not covers of the previous postAuditory - Similar sound, beats, use of samples from previously played hands/post, or perhaps the musicians exploit a certain non traditional instrument in a certain way.Factuality or Mythically - Incorporate some sort of musical knowledge or urban legend/lore behind the song, musicians, or history you are posting that would connect it with previous post.
There is a point system in the works (perhaps for tournament play?), but it's just as fun as a non-competitive game too. See original post for more examples.
