Babyland Will Not Go Away

Posted over 2 years ago

The Independent Electronic Junk Punk of Babyland
I had to jump at the chance for a fill in the gaps post on this lesser known electronic duo out of So. Cal. According to wikipedia, Babyland formed in 1989 and adhere to and are advocates of Punk/DIY philosophy, as well as being well regarded in the Punk, Industrial, Indie Rock, and Electronic communities. Their performances often occur in underground locations " that have included places like LA's Jabberjaw, Kontrol Factory, The Smell and 924_gilman in Berkeley."
An explanation of their music on their MySpace page:
BABYLAND embodies the integration of electronic music with the direct approach of hardcore and the intensity of junk noise. Compositions are conceptually based on the extreme emotional elements of humankind as reflected in our continual evolution and search for meaning within our own existence.
Throughout the years, elements of synth pop, hardcore punk rock, new wave, techno, drum & bass and noise have all fallen prey to our continual experimentation. We utilize machinery twisted through misuse and human error to aggressively address our audience with empathy and concern; The electronic elements and primitive rhythmic base of the music provides an intense clarity and opposition to the resulting confusion and noise. The stronghold of our existence has always been intense live performances which confront audiences with an honest celebration of extreme energy, harsh sonic and visual elements, and experimental destruction.

  2. contrabandwidth says I had a feeling that of all the regular posters you and Flood would get the most out of this. My friend who introduced me to them likes them so much that he got a tattoo of their logo on his shoulder. 'Course his name is Bryan, so if his allegiance wears thin, I guess he can say the logo is really about his name.

  4. contrabandwidth says No, I'm pretty sure the friend I mentioned had, but they seem to stay left coast most of time. I would make 'em a friend on MySpace, to keep abreast of their gigs, if I were you.
