Let's Fuck With Mog-matic - A Social Networking Experiment...

Cheating in life is an inevitable fact. I am always fascinated by how technology embeds itself in our life, offers to free us from the social constraints of society, and level the playing field - making all voices equal. Kind of Utopian isn't it? Well, online and in the world of technology, it at least starts out that way until someone finds away to cheat the system or work it to their advantage. Be it people cheating click-through advertising, online gamers using mods to pwn their opponents, or the Chinese Gold Farmers that have established themselves on games like "World Of Warcraft", cheating is as much the human condition as the desire to interact.
In honor of Barry Bonds 756th Home run, let's knock Smashing Pumpkins out of the top slot with a previously un-listed "Top Artist This Month"So here is what I propose:
I have noticed that for the mog-o-matic to record the songs I have played, I only have to start the song in iTunes, for it to register on my mog page. This also works for your iPod as well (iTunes will record the number of times your iPod has played a song into the play count section of iTunes, which mog-o-matic picks up and uses for its "recently played" and for the "Top Songs This Week/Month") So this got me thinking about how the mog-o-matic must record the information from iTunes (this is all speculation, which is why this is an experiment).
If mog-o-matic records the information of what is playing at the moment as a "Songs Recently Played/Top songs This Week/Month" than theoretically, the most popular songs on everyones Mog page (Top Songs this Week/Month) gets tallied into the mog Top Artist of the Month category at the bottom of the page (although I'm sure people's posts, with MP3's, on said artist help too).
So the best way I can think of conducting this experiment is to get everyne on the same page:Step 1 - Download this free MP3 from iTunes (Artist: Bat For Lashes Song:Horse and I Album:Fur and Gold. You can find it on the iTunes home page under "Free on iTunes).*(I will update this to another more accessible MP3, if someone can find it - must legally be free. No Torrents of Limewire stuff).Step 2 - add to you iTunes library. Play the song, learn to love it or stick it on repeat and turn off the volume.Step 3 - make a Mog post. Title it the "Mog Social Networking Experiment - [your name]" and tag it with experiment, mog-o-matic. Fill in artist information, etc. as you would for any other post.Step 4 - Upload song into post.Step 5 - Link back to this post.I'll update this post with any further info on the ranking of the song. Remember this experiment takes as many people as possible, doing as many plays of the song as possible. So if you are sick of the song, put it on repeat when you go to lunch and turn off the sound. This is the web equivalent of an artist coming out of nowhere and burning up the chart. I've actually listened to the song, and I must say it's pretty good. Let's give this artist a boost, who knows, we may have just helped others discover a new artist. (I have seen that fellow moggers have already pushed this artist, my choice was one out of necessity and price (free), but I am pleasantly surprised, none the less).

Bat For Lashes is one of my nominated gems of 2006.

I bought the album last year and fell and still remain in love with Natasha Khan's lyricism. Maybe I should post a note on my "repeat" song from Fur And Gold
