What's So Funny 'bout Peace, Love & Understanding
If there is anything that get's the ol' moggers riled up, it's topics of religion and politics. So I'm going to get a little secular/philosphical for this post - but don't worry, I'm not into trying to convince anyone that my belief system is the right one.
This may be silly, but speculation is like 90% of the blogosphere, so like the title says "What Would Jesus Mog?"
I'm not even asking anyone to believe whether or not he existed, but rather think of what you know about this chap. Apparently he was a sandal wearing prophet who brought religion to the people, taught about love, compassion, and redemption. Kind of like a hippie minus the patchouli. So maybe he was more like Bob Marley, but without the guitar and a great back up band.
Since rock n' roll is a great platform for these ideologies, but usually hypocritical when it comes to the amount of ever present hedonism, what would be the contemporary artists, songs, and such that have that sort of earnest/lack of self righteousness. Please, don't post anything that is specifically in the genre of contemporary christian rock/ praise music. I'm trying to keep it very proletariat. Here's my choice. The Flaming Lips ??Do You Realize??

  3. Dale says I'd say MoTab, but since that would fall under the umbrella of "praise music", I'll have to go another way. Here's one song he's MOG about, Nada Surf's "Always Love".

  4. contrabandwidth says Nice Dale. "Paper Boats" comes to mind as a particularly wistful tune of theirs that I like. Good Choice. This is one of those groups people wrote off w/ ??Popular?? but still put out good music.

  5. Lizziegreeneyes says I usually think bittersweet when it comes to thoughts about faith... This is one that gets into my core... hadn't listened to Sarah McLachlan for YEARS... recently I found my way back to her... like a favorite old sweater, she warms me straight through. *+SHELTER.Sarah McLachlan+* This one is a teensy bit more abstract... but it's often how I feel... *+WAIT.Alexi Murdoch+*

  7. contrabandwidth says Great posts people, I was afraid people would take the Jesus theme to literally. As I've said before, I think sometimes a blues song about a life lived wrong can be 1000 x's more powerful and soul stirring than an intentional praise or glorifying hymn type of song.

  10. Deuce says LOL! Oh, Sam The Artist, that was hilarious! Will Ferrell cracks me up! I think that one is the best for me. The Warren Zevon post got me thinking a bit about how short life on this earth is. I think you asked a good question (WWJM), but I think Jesus would never MOG anything we would anticipate. His approach was usually to point out just how feeble our thoughts are in comparison to those in the heavens. In fact, I'm thinking he would probably dwarf every existing MOG entry with a very simple parable and/or image that makes everybody realize they are spending way too much time online exploring the frontier of personal music preferences and tastes, and not enough time with their family, and their pets, and the poor, and the lonely, and the sick. It would become the most popular entry. I suspect it would also be the last.

  11. HelenMarie says Well for heavens sake *Duece* - That could be a good point but a lot of people wouldn't connect to certain depths of the soul without music and Jesus would understand why people feel the need to explore the things that enlighten one another. I would assume he would just hope it was used in the most positive way possible. If he had issues with the internet I'm sure MOG would be close to the last place he would visit. I strongly agree that people should be participating more in world matters and certainly hope that no one is dismissing their loving families and pets just to hang on the internet and MOG... for me my hobby time is with MOG. I can't help but to think of this song and I'd like to share.
