Well color me tickled pink. I have found the nexus where my need for visual information and facts combine.

I had been working on some graphic design to chart the rise of what I call "The New Popular Sound" in music. TNPS genesis comes somewhere between The Beatles "Rubber Soul" and The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds albums. This is the time in which I think a new definition of rock and popular music was redefined, and in a sense, these albums are still influencing and changing music today.

Problem is that from 1963 - 1967, it was such a prolific time period in music, that I was finding so much information it was hard to relegate it to the two pages I had laid out.

Enter NNDB Mapper. This is a wonderful piece of online software that allows you to map connections of people and events, movies or even TV shows. This thing is simply incredible.

I have started a map based on the influence of "Pet Sounds" album. Come see it in progress, drop me a line if you have some input. I'm having fun watch the map evolve before my eyes. Write a comment if you have any links to your own personal data mapping geekery!

If you think about it, has society ever been altered more drastically than it was by a mere accident in a laboratory?
I'm not talking like some sort of "Outbreak" scenario (or maybe I am, man, if you really twist it around in yer noggin'). I'm talking about the wonderful and weird way the world was forever altered thanks to Dr. Albert Hofmann's attempts to synthesize ergot and a plant called medicinal plant called squill for use in pharmaceuticals in 1938. The result was LSD -25, and the documentation of this fluke discovery is amazing. The results are pretty much too much to list here. So I'll just post some of my favorite results of this phenomena.

I'll let Bill Hicks weigh in before the music begins:

The Flaming Lips - Turn It On

Mercury Rev - Opus 40

Ween - Transdermal Celebration

The Beta Band - Inner Meet Me
