MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

(1)

Actually I can't say this track qualifies as 'fonkay' but certainly in relation to the rest of the release it is pretty funky. As a result of hours in the car and on the road of late, I've been going through full albums instead of just mixes and I finally heard this track on Return to Cookie Mountain. I really like this album, all sorts of great production and arrangements and the lead singer gets into all sorts of voices, including early Ozzie-esque moments. Anyway this one appears to be a bit of an afro-beat homage with some heavy Peter Gabriel influence.

That's a really interesting combination of styles. At first so spooky and then the trumpets start surprisingly and change the mood of the song. Nice one.

They do the spooky thing quite nicely. I have to recommend checking out the whole album. Very well recorded and produced with a strong emphasis on musicality ratther fitting any particular genre or concept.
