new to me and to mog?

Posted over 2 years ago

I use pandora late nights in the office and generally it just gives me a lot of what I already know or own, which is fine for the most part. Every once in a while, though, it gives me something new and last week it gave me this track, "Topolino", from Drums & Tuba. It's got a certain weather report vibe, but with the Tuba kicking the bass it's hard not to think New Orleans at times. If you like this track, you should definitely check out a post I did on HIM a while back.

Haven't really scratched the surface on drums & tuba yet. A trio with a guy doing Stanley clarke style strings (guitar and bass), drums and tube and influenced by MMW and Weather Report. Here's a vid of them doing their thing.

Yeah man!  Good score, D&T are awesome.  That's my boonie buddy and ex-college roomate Brian Wolff on tuba.  D&T quit as an active unit a few years back, but I have been lucky enough to reconnect with him in New York these last couple years, and do a bunch of gigs with him here and there, including this past New Years Eve.

Brian is a real original, please support him.  His website is www.wolffandtuba.com and he's always putting up weird videos or blogs or something new.  If you are ever in NYC on a weekend, definitely go check him out at Pianos in the LES, he plays last, after all the bands are done, just killing em, giving up these amazing dance beat/ambient/loops, all made with, by, and through the tuba, with *EXTENSIVE* electronic modulation.
