WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

No Fess for me

Posted about 1 year ago
I had planned to be chomping at the bit by now with a Wednesday, April 30 departure for New Orleans and weekend 2 of JazzFest. Unfortunately, some heavy family stuff has come between me and fun travel. So, I post this track as very belated Funky Friday Fess homage. My path to the Wild Tchoupitoulas is kinda interesting. Baudolino put up a Wild Magnolias post that I dug quite a bit and which inspired me to go grab one of their albums. Then I mention to my boss (the one from Louisiana) that I am digging on the Wild Magnolias and he says, "yeah they're good, but the Wild Tchoupitolouas are even better." And he was kind enough to let me borrow some product. So here is "Hey Mama," and the source of what I was tickled to learn is the primary sample used in "Cumin in Ya Ear" (with a mike and drummer) by The Goats.

  1. Cody B says That's a bummer, I hope things work out with your family issues. You definitely made lemonade from the lemons..Great Post. From my POV neither record outshines the other..The Wild Tchoupitoulas has a little reggae lilt to it and really is a Meters/Neville's record, while the Magnolias are a Willie Tee/Gaturs record, that funks a little harder. Both records take parade classics as a template and add their colors. Different, but essential on both counts, for anybody interested in NOLA sounds. ► "Here was my Magnolias Post":http://mog.com/Cody_B/blog_post/82989 ◄

  2. consumerx says I am totally on board with your analysis of the two Wild NO groups, Cody. I like the T's, but I think the Magnolias do funk a little harder.

  3. Oatmeal says The constant stream of love for NOLA music makes me so pissed that law exams infringe on my ability to disopver the musical terrain here. Hopefully my tuition at least trickles down to keep the love going. Great post.

  4. tipiboy says Sorry you couldn't make it, I also hope your family issues resolve themselves. Been here for 10 days with limited computor access, really been missing the Mogosphere. Not on my machine right now for example so have no music to sooth your pain ... But I owe a nice NoLa track soon as I get my Mac up! Stay up, T
