Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin is a favorite of mine. The 2006 album went off with relatively little fanfare, and much to my dismay as over a period of time I couldn’t find their stuff. Even locating information online seemed tough.
After hearing I am Warm and Powerful on LastFM once, I did some thorough searches. I keep a list of good bands and their music that I hear. When I get the chance I look it up and find out more. Ticking most bands off the list wasn’t hard, but they were one of 2 that I just couldn’t get the info on.
Eventually, I subscribed to Rhapsody and found their album Broom.
Today as I scraped Hype Machine to find some Bird and the Bee stuff for their new EP, I located new SSLYBY stuff and everything was a-ok! It’s not for everybody, but I love their clever approach at arrangement. It’s simple, but different. I get the same feeling listening to I am Warm and Powerful that I get when I pop Say Hi’s Northwestern Girls. It’s just… good.
Anyway, the song Oregon Girl is coming as part of their new sophomore release called Perishing. It’s shaping up to be an amazing release, so keep on it. We’ll update with any more show news.
I can’t pick a favorite here.. they’re all rad.

Apparently VW’s new album isn’t quite released, but their music is spreading all over. I can think of a few people who will read this blog who are going to want to know about this band.
The thing is, being they type to browse music and find everything I can, I tend to have more days of finding pretty good stuff than anything. But, from time to time I find a band that blows me away, and every song is good. This is Vampire Weekend for me. Check out all the tracks if you can.

really fun song! i'm definitely gonna check out their album. when does it come out?

A ginormous comet of pure awesomeness struck last year and music was declared good. I'm having trouble letting go of stuff I listened to at the beginning of the year.
Loney, Dear put out probably what is the most genius record I think I have heard in a long time. The only thing I can think of that rivals it last year was Arcade Fire's "Neon Bible" release in the latter part of the year. Either way, I've been rocking both albums sufficiently for at least 2 days.
The average music fan hits that point in their life where nothing gets better. Some dudes are still only listening to Boston. That's awesome, but things evolve and retract. There are musical ebbs and flows, but each time something is reinvented it has it's own style and attributes.
Those of us who are pure music geeks need a chance to branch out and hear something new. We evolve in our tastes.
Could this signal the end of my evolution? Have I settled on the year 2007?
Bah, no. Those were just some wicked good albums.

Why let it go? 'Loney, Noir' is an awesome album, I'll be running with it in 2008 and beyond (made it on my year-end favorites list too). I'd almost rather have a few more months to keep sinking my teeth into this aural candy before the '08 stunners come along. Cheers!
