WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

this is so annoying

alright.so have you ever heard a song or a band, really liked them, gotten really into their music, and then suddenly a few months later they become the new "it" band to listen to, or they become so popular that they're featured on stupid shows like TRL?i absolutely hate that.see, it's happened to me at least three times now. first, i really liked KT Tunstall. now of course whenever i mention her to anyone, someone HAS to start singing a line from "black horse and the cherry tree" or "suddenly i see" (the latter being a good song, just to tell ya...)then came Panic! At the Disco. my friend gave me a CD with maybe 15 tracks on it. i kept 9 of the songs, and i didnt know what the songs were called or who they were all by (they were all obviously by the same band, i could figure that much out). i absolutely LOVED those songs; the playlist with those nine songs on it was on repeat for days at a time. then exactly a month later i suddenly knew who the band was and what the songs were called when I'd suddenly hear the songs EVERYWHERE. it was annoying as hell.then there was the one that provoked me to write this post. at the beginning of the summer, i blindly previewed a song on iTunes and liked it and bought it. it escalated to where i own the entire album that that one song was on and four other songs besides (all by this one band, The Starting Line). i've liked that band since JUNE, and yesterday, while my dad was sitting in the den watching music videos, i came in and BAM! my least favorite song by The Starting Line was blaring out from a video and was suddenly cut into by a smiling blonde who was interviewing the band (who were all crammed onto this bright-orange couch) between verses.god.so anyways, that was my venting and ranting for the day.by the way, merry day-after-Christmas.on the 23rd i spent the night at a friends; we got back to her house at four AM still drunk and a little high, and we woke up at nine because she had tennis lessons. and then i sat in a church from nine until midnight hte next night (xmas eve) and was woken up at seven AM yesterday morning by my siblings (heeheee... siblings. i mean my brothers and sister) and fell asleep at two am last night and woke up at eight thirty today. usually that kind of sleep-deprivement is fine by me if its being deprived of sleep because i stay up too late (but usually i sleep in really, realllllllly late... like until noon or sometimes one PM), but if im being deprived of sleep because of holidays and tennis lessons i tend to freak out.thus the angry rant i just posted.ciao!OH ps. CAN YOU SAY LEXUS?! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i love christmas. except for the whole sleep-deprivement thing.

  1. lemontwist says I don't really hate it when my favorite bands get successful... I see it as a natural progression of an awesome band, and I'm glad that my favorite musicians get their due. :) Granted, most of my favorite musicians stay mostly below the radar... but I don't enjoy Panic! At The Disco any less because they're popular and famous.

  2. col cuore spezzata says that's true. i mean the posting comes off as me no longer liking my music because the band becomes famous, but that's not true- Panic! and The Starting Line are still two of my favorite bands despite their sudden, like... rocketing to stardom. its the fact that suddenly the music i like becomes mainstream and when the popularity is beginning to die down, you end up getting tired of the music. that's what happens to me in general. don't know about other people.

  3. lemontwist says Yeah, I will agree with you that it's annoying as all hell when songs get played to death. Drives me nuts. Though I don't really listen to the radio much, and I don't watch TV, so I stay blissfully unaware most of the time. :)
