So in continuation of my ABC's of Rock and Roll (gosh, it's been months), I'm going to post up at least one letter (I have them all done mostly, I just keep getting lazy or busy or both) of the alphabet. We are on E. This was far from an Eeeeasy choice (*chortle*), but some close runners were Erin Mckeown, Earl Greyhound, and Edith Piaf.The "winner" of my exposure? Eisley. Despite pigeonholing themselves into a category of indie harmony-dependents, Eisley is a quite talented band. Four siblings and a cousin comprise the band, known to their mothers as Garron, Chauntelle, Sherri, Stacy, and Weston DuPree and hailing from Tyler Texas. Starting their musical voyage together in 1997, they worked through three bassists before finally settling on cousin Garron in 2005.Eisley gets it's name from a spaceport in Star Wars, Mos Eisley. In fact, the band was originally named "Moss Eisley" until Warner signed them and was worried that there may be legal issues with the name.As for the music--because isn't that what we're here for?--Eisley could be described as a dreamy-feeling band with extensive harmonic play. They have a few more 'rocking' songs like "Head Against the Sky", and a lot of airy songs like "I wasn't prepared" or "Laughing City". My favorite brand of Eisley, however, is their ability to fuse this dreaminess with a definitive beat, such as in "Tree Tops". I leave you with "Memories". Even if this song doesn't suit you, I still recommend the other songs. My favorite part of this song? Around 2:30 there is a battle of voices, almost, that really just saved this song for me the first time I heard it and piqued my interest to find more by them...I also want to note about this track that the chorus melody reminds me a little of This...haha, enjoy.
