Aussie envy
i've always had a strong on again, off again infatuation with music from australia. i really cant help it, what with the likes of rose tattoo, birthday party, x, the saints, radio birdman, ac/dc, and most recently the drones. - maybe the caliber of music there has a lot to do with their geographic seperation to the rest of the world. they are able to do what they do without the influence of far off lands, thus keeping their art raw and completely honest. I'm fascinated with the thought that these bands are a reflection of their country...a harsh, dry, and cracked landscape largely untouched by the modern world. to me, rock n roll in its purest form is a very primal and savage music.-- i've been reading a lot of terence mckenna and he talks a lot about man getting back to its real self, about how we are at the end of an evolutionary cycle. he goes on to hint that technology and progress will be obsolete in the very near future. i'm lead to believe that aussie bands are way ahead of this kind of thinking, they understand that rock n roll should not be diluted with over-production and fancy clothes. Those things cast a foggy veil over a feeling that should be as clear as day. Long live rock n roll and long live the great legacy of australian music.
