Smith at CBGB's final show - +Bryan Bedder/Getty+
I was mining some shows and decided to take a sorta break from my thread, to offer up some quintessential PATTI = this version of "BIRDLAND":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birdland off of +Teenage Perversity and Ships in the Night+, recorded at the Roxy Theatre (LA), 1/30/76."I tried to pick songs that my band did back then. The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game [Marvelettes] was the first song we ever did there. Pale Blue Eyes [Velvet Underground] -- we did that too. And I wanted to build up to the last piece of the first set, which was Birdland. That was a song that started as a "poem":http://www.oceanstar.com/patti/lyrics/birdland.htm, and through several months at CBGB, went from one place to another, morphed and grew. To me, Birdland is the quintessential CBGB song."[1]fn1. Do yourself a favor and also listen to another particular all-time favorite of mine: Histories of the Universe at "UbuWeb":http://www.ubu.com/sound/smith.html(This site actually has MEGA GR8 stuff! - I have yet to only scratch the surface myself. I do hope they will be adding more stuff by Patti.)1. Poem for Jim Morrison & Bumblebee (11:45) from The Nova Convention (Giorno Poetry Systems, 1978) 2. The Histories of the Universe (7:46) Recorded at St. Marks Church, NYC, Jan 1, 1975from Big Ego (Giorno Poetry Systems, 1978) 3. Parade (6:07) from Sugar, Alcohol, Meat (Giorno Poetry Systems, 1980)*Sha da do wop, da shaman do way, sha da do wop, da shaman do way,....*
