Well, there has been years of chatter about "Patti Smith":http://www.pattismith.net/ doing a covers album. If you have a look at the set lists from performances from 1971-2007 you will see that there has been plenty of "favorites" among her fans to fuel the increased discussion speculating upon what would be on the first release she will have on Sony since it was known it would be a covers albums. Each of her albums have covers on them, which she has made her own. She also preforms many others live, such as the +Ronettes+ cover above. Notably her rendition of +Lou Reed+'s "Pale Blue Eyes" captured on the famous +Teenage Perversity of the Night+ bootleg, is the best version ever - taking it places Lou Reed hasn't managed to achieve emotionally.Perhaps that has something to do with the reason I've seen the video of her doing +Debbie Boone+'s "You Light Up My Life"" on +Kids Are People Too+":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Agl4IvNnQPo recently added to youtube posted all over the Internet.
