it's easter sunday and i went to see a method man show. perfect.i had been to l'elysee montmartre before so i knew what to expect as far as where i was going to stand, size of the venue, etc. i always make a habit of checking to see if i can buy tickets online up until the show date to know if the show is sold out. this determines how early i get to the show if i don't feel like seeing the opener. it wasn't sold out so i decided to skip the opening act and get there an hour after the 1900 ticket time.i got there at 2000 and the house was packed! i made my way to my spot (near the soundboard, slightly elevated from the main floor). within five minutes, johnny blaze came out with force. both he and his protege, streetlife, were wearing hoods so no one could really tell who was who. when the iron lung finally revealed himself, the crowd went bananas (b-a-n-a-n-a-s).
the ticallion stallion delved into some of the material off of his newest album, 4:21...the day after. the crowd was feeling it and the energy level started to rise.hot nikkels was also getting more hyped as he got into his old school stuff. he ran and jumped across the stage and on the speakers. he spit cuts from his debut album wth fury and ended 'bring the pain' with a stage dive. he mixed in some wu-tang favorites, as well, including 'wu-tang clan ain't nothing to fuck wit' and 'c.r.e.a.m.'. the fans also loved the small tribute that big john stud did for his fallen wu-tang soldier, odb.the highlight was when mza performed 'da rockwilder', from his collaboration with redman (redman wasn't there, but the dj played his verse). he grabbed a chair and split the main floor in two. then he proceeded to make his way, with the chair, through the crowd. when he got halfway to the back, he stood up on the chair and did a verse from his makeshift stage. when he was done, he returned via crowd surf.before the last song, long john silver had some of his fans come on stage, including an eight year old kid who knew all of the moves to the fall out video. he'd been watching the show from his own perch, waving his hands and making the famous wu-tang 'w' sign.
johnny dangerous capped off the night with a front flip stage dive. this performance alone left me with high hopes for july 4th, when i'm going to see the entire wu-tang clan on stage, together, for the first time.
