WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

when i first heard... hot water music

Posted over 3 years ago
i went to see a show in the 'great hall' (i think that's what it was called) at the old coffman union at the university of minnesota. one of my new favorite bands, dillinger four, was on the bill with three pretty big heavy hitters in the punk rock world by today's standards - avail, leatherface, and hot water music. i remember going to see d4 and avail. i wasn't too much into leatherface and knew nothing about hot water music.hot water music's live set was raw and full of energy - chris and chuck tag teamed on vocals like nothing i had ever heard. this band was amazing. so immediately after their set, i went to the merch table to see what they had to offer for music. i was in my early 20's and driving for a local pizza joint, so needless to say, i didn't have an exorbitant amount of disposable income. although i wanted to buy all of their available cds on the spot, i had to settle for only one. i asked the merch guy which one was the best and he deliberated for some time between 'fuel for the hate game' and 'forever and counting'. you can probably tell by the post which one edged out the other.unfortunately, this band won't be putting out any more records because they've disbanded. 3/4 of the band play in a new band called the draft. the blacktop cadence and rumbleseat were a couple of 'side projects' in which various member took part.hot water music - a great punk band - often imitated, never duplicated...

  1. Kirk says Nice review. A fellow bassist friend of mine aways wears a hooded sweater with the band's logo on it. There's gotta be something to them.

  2. etcvisitor says i bought a ticket to warped tour awhile back just to see them, but my drunk friends were all hungover and we were thirty minutes late... guess who played first? yup, so i missed hot water music, but i did get to hang out with chuck at their merch tent. the one thing i dont get is how you can be into hot water music and not leather face... its like motorhead without the rock n roll wind machine blown hair ridiculousness (no disrespect to motorhead). good post.
