ah romance

I talked about Storm Large singing “Anything, anything” by Dramarama in my last post. I had never heard this song before I heard it on Rockstar:Supernova. But, as soon as I heard it I decided to buy both her version and the original. This song is just great - I don’t know how I haven’t heard it once in the last 26 years. Anyway, it has me feeling all romantic and I wish I knew about i

Storm Large + Phil Ritchie=googly eyed babies

I don’t know how many of my fellow moggers watch Rockstar: Supernova (or watched the first season Rockstar:INXS) – but, I am addicted.Last year, I loved Jordis Unga. So much so that I tracked down her band The Liars Club on purevolume. This year I am torn between Dilana and Lukas. I decided week two that Supernova should just ax the other contestants and the rest of the season should just s

Lady C vs. David Hyman Experiment

This turned out to be a long mog, please bear with me. Lady C theorized (hypothesized?) that track 4 would be the standout track on an album and David Hyman theorized that it would be track 6. I decided to dust off my very rusty Scientific Theory skills from high school and do an experiment. I put my iTunes on Party Shuffle to randomize the test group and then I pulled tracks 4 and 6 and com...

Popular music

Mog has been awesome for introducing me to stuff I hadn’t heard before. One of the things I’ve noticed though, is that there is great disdain here for the stuff on the radio. The top 40, heavy rotation songs. I don’t listen to the radio very often but there are songs I have heard that were, gasp, popular, that I like. I will not be shamed. Here are the songs that everybody else likes th

Religion and music

I wrote a mog post the other day about a cd that turned out to be by a christian band. That post and the comments on it got me thinking about where I draw the line. Below are lyrics from Flyleaf that I find exceptionable and lyrics by Ozzy Osbourne that I don’t find exceptionable. They both allude to a higher power. The first is feels very negative to me, while the second is positive. But,.

Actual real life CDs!! part 2

The second CD – Flyleaf – was very interesting. I had never heard of them before. He put it on in the car on our way home and it sounded like an Evanescence knockoff. I didn’t really like it but I decided to re-listen at home, because sometimes music takes a few listens. I have a quirk where I have to see the lyrics to a song before I decided if I like it or will buy it. This has kept m

Actual real life CDs!! part 1

    Decemberundeground

Back home today we stopped by Best Buy and Michael bought two actual, real live, CDs. It has been so long since I bought an actual CD – I stick to downloads for instant gratification and because I don’t like paying for filler songs. So, of course, the second we got home I stole his CDs upstairs to my computer to listen to. He got AFI – Decemberunderground and Flyleaf – self titled. I a

I missed you mog - roadtrip

Just got home from a roadtrip down to NC to go house hunting. Some fellow moggers turned me onto some music that became the soundtrack for the trip. So – shout outs (heh, now that sounds retarded doesn’t it, oh well) to Moof for Sufjan Stevens and to Max for Man Man. I got partial albums of both Illinoise by Sufjan Stevens and The Man in a Blue Turban With a Face by Man Man. (Bonus points

Oh Mog

My computer doesn't like Mog anymore. I got home last Thursday night and tried to hop on with no luck. No luck over the whole weekend - HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. This morning I was able to get on at work, so when I got home tonight I tried it again. No luck. I am now on someone else's computer writing down music I want to go find. Then I will slog back to my computer and go search f...

genre bending covers

I am a cover whore. If the cover is in a different genre – then I’m a cover crack whore. These are my top 10:Delia’s Gone – 12 Step Rebels, originally by Johnny Cash. This is a psuedo-psychobilly cover. The upright bass (is that the right name for it?) makes this song. And it’s always a kick to realize what a dark side Johnny Cash had. “If I hadn’t shot poor Delia, I’d had her
