My Mogmas

Posted over 4 years ago
Just as I was despairing that Mog Santa wasn’t going to visit me this year for being such a bad mogger, I got two packages Christmas Eve. I figure I must’ve gotten some good mog karma for the shoe pic (not to mention the delightful art deco cd – ha) I sent Amber. And not only did I get two packages but they were both overfilled with awesomeness!"Torch":http://mog.com/Torch was my mog secret santa and he gifted me with two mixes. A lot of the songs on his mixes were songs that I knew and loved but didn’t own – so that was spectacularly cool. I took a nice trip down a musical memory lane. A small selection of what he sent: The Diary of Jane by Breaking Benjamin, Away by the Toadies, Not the Doctor by Alanis Morrisette, Desperately Wanting by Better than Ezra, and Clumsy by Our Lady Peace. He also had a few on there I’d never heard but am really digging like Angry Situation by Save Ferris and Crushcrushcrush by Paramore. A couple things really tickled me. The first is that the first song on the first cd was the song I walked down the aisle to – Christmas Canon by Trans Siberian Orchestra. The second was he included What a Good Boy by Barenaked Ladies. I mentioned a few times here that I have a collection of songs for whenever I need to have a good cry. A handful of songs that are guaranteed to release the torrent of agony that builds up inside sometimes. What a Good Boy is the second best song for this purpose. The song wasn’t even in my itunes so that I have to purposely get the cd to listen to it. So, basically, Torch made me cry. Thanks Torch. Haha…I jest. I am super excited about the mixes. I am currently rocking out to Huey Lewis & the News courtesy of Torch. The second package I got wasn’t Christmas related, I don’t think – but since it came on Christmas Eve I am counting it as such. "Fairportfan":http://mog.com/fairportfan sent me three movies: Dark Star, Get Crazy, and The 5000 Fingers of Doctor T (Dr. Suess for the win!). Those I plan to thoroughly enjoy this weekend. So thank you both! And on the family tip, my lovely husband got me an 80 gig ipod and a wii. I love my life sometimes. :)

  12. Dale says Oh, by the way, we just got the Wii Zapper with the Zelda mini-games. Ridiculously fun! So get that next.

  13. chucky says Ray, apologies. KOOL!!! hahaha....;) Heath, yeah I had it on gamecube and never finished it. Thought it might be more fun on the wii. What's galaxy? Is that Mario? Dale, big ups to torch indeed! What's the zapper? How will I keep up? hahaha... Ty, yep. I was completely surprised. I didn't know it, but he was going out constantly before christmas hoping to find one in stock. Right now, I have four nunchuks and 2 controllers. Four nunchuks because they told him at the store they didn't come with the console so he bought extras....grrr...

  16. chucky says I was never a huge Mario fan. But, it's been ages and ages (and ages) since I've played any Mario games so my memory is a bit fuzzy on how good they were or weren't.

  17. watchbatteries says Wii Sports is great for the price of "included". Galaxy really is...I mean, it's Mario.

  18. Dale says The Wii Zapper basically turns your controller and nunchuk into a gun. The included game is Link's Crossbow Challenge, where Link does target practice and takes out baddies with a crossbow instead of a sword. Very cool.

  21. SA says I still have yet to play with a wii (that I don't own, but friends of my do), and now you guys are making me even more curious about that little machine. ;) And an 80 gig Ipod, wow, that's a lot, great presents by the husband. :) And good to hear you got a good mix for Christmas as well. Funny that some of those songs are linked so close to you, only the mysterious Christmas spirit of the holidays can make such a thing happen. :P

  22. chucky says If you get the wii, just beware of it's dangers. My shoulder does hurt...haha. As for the 80 gig, I am so excited. I figure that baby is going to last me a good long while before I fill it up. Isn't it funny how Torch's mixes managed that? I agree, it's the christmas spirit. :)

  35. chucky says Jill, it rocks indeed :) Torch, I'm glad you did. I was going to but I was feeling exceptionally lazy. The cover was most excellent. I also dug the A Christmas Story lamp on the back :) Good stuff! Anna, I heart moggers. Best people on the whole damn planet. :) walkingthecow, that's two of you here now mentioning galaxy. I may have to check it out. Lowdown, here's what Mike told me about the movies: "Dark Star" - an SF film that began as a student film by John Carpenter ("Halloween", "The Thing", "Christine") and Dan O'Bannon ("Alien", Total Recall", "Blue Thunder"). The total budget was under $5000, which was cheap even in those days - a year or two before "Star Wars". You may see things that remind you of "Star Wars" - O'Bannon wound up working on some of the special effects for "Star Wars", and he more o rless recycled some of the computer graphics he did for "Dark Star". It's very mid-70s college humour; the sequence when Doolittle tries to reason with the bomb always gets big cheers from college audiences... "Get Crazy" (1983) is from Alan Arkush, who also directed "Rock 'n'Roll High School" - very 80s humour. Daniel Stern (wh plays Neal) and Malcolm McDowell (Reggie Wanker) were in "Blue Thunder" together, and there's a reference to that (among other things). It's copied from a bootleg DVD made from a VHS tape, and it seems a little quirky - my DVD player skips a bit on it, but shows the picture perfectly. My computer plays perfectly, but tries to show the pcture too wide unless i mess with the settings in the player... But it's a hilarious film. And, finally, "The 5000 fingers of Dr T". Early 50's, a musical with s script by Dr Suess, songs lyrics by Dr Suess and set designs by Dr Suess. They sound ridiculously cool. fistula, if you like them then I know they are going to be good :)
