Re-Eightied, Part Two
Yes, I know I've been slacking on the pimping. This is the second part of a multi-part series on a mix CD I've created with remakes of songs released in the 80's. I'd like you all to weigh in on either the pros and/or cons of the original and/or remake.Today's selection is "Come on Eileen," originally recorded by Dexy's Midnight Runners, and remade by Save Ferris featuring Reel Big Fish. Now, I have to say that I'm a little biased each way. The original recording of "Come on Eileen" is one of those 80's songs that I could listen to over and over again without getting tired of it. I just may be mentally retarded, but it always makes me feel like dancing. If you make an 80's compilation, "Come on Eileen", along with "Rock Lobster", is one of the songs you absolutely need.On the other hand, out of the bands that emerged from the ska revolution in the early `90's, Save Ferris is the only band I can listen to an entire album of(although I've only heard "It Means Everything" so far, not "Modified" yet). Even though I've heard them referred to as "Wannabe No Doubt", there's something just a tad different between the music of both bands, and especially the vocals of Monique Powell. To me, it just sounds more powerful(not to take away anything from No Doubt, yet). So, here's Save Ferris featuring Reel Big Fish. Let me know what you think.Tschüss
