Remember way back > > > to a time when you didn't know any better, a time when you dated one asshole after another...

This song captures that feeling of contempt for Mister Wrong's next victim. Even though he didn't deserve you, you still lamented his decision to choose someone else.

Plus, she has a cute French accent.

um. i got this in my mog mail box this morning. first of all, i know this is some robot generated spam's attempt to get any desperate straight guy to buy in to the hope of connecting with some hot, "tall" (according to her email) woman that will apparently never stop loving him.

my favorite part of the email is the the following quote, "Remember, love has no colour barrier, no socio-economic barrier, religious, nationality or distance barrier, but love matters most."

like i'm supposed to believe that someone that pitches me as the "honest and caring man that i have been looking four (mispelled)" also is be equipped to talk about global socio-economic hurdles and the universal appeal of love? i think not. anyway, since she has "something special to tell" me about her....i think i'm going to write, and keep posting her/his responses here on mog.

we all know about youtube. it's my go-to when bored at work, briefly uninspired, or just when i need to see a video clip of something i love. i love OK go's video's - time well spent in an afternoon of mindless web-clicking and pointing. go ahead an watch a recent video by them below...

r.i.p. - ipod

last week, out of nowhere - my 40 gig ipod died. only 1.5 years old and in mint condition (never dropped, always in a protective case, etc). how can a piece of techology with under 2 years of use - just quit on you? seriously, why? why? ipod, i'm lost without your help getting to work, at the gym, or anytime i'm on-th-go....

coincidentally, i believe in karma - so i'm trying to think back to something i may have done to wrong someone in the recent past? there are so many possibilities.

i have no idea where to go with all my anger and frustration. i cringed at the gym the other morning when C&C music factory, "gonna make you sweat" played while i was on an exercise bike. i've gone for so long without having to listen to anything other than my music, i'm lost and distraught almost everywhere i go.

do i go buy another one? do i schedule a futile appt at the genius bar? all rhetorical questions i know. sigh.

last holiday

first of all - i have to preface this post with the fact that i'm an indie + classic film enthusiast. that aside - i do enjoy a hollywood film when i'm tired and unable to process anything too cerebral. fast forward to me picking up "last holiday" at the video store last weekend.

somehow, while watching it - something clicked within me. it's message (often clouded by a number of r&b meddley's) is that life is precious, and not to be taken for granted. we've all heard this message - and ignored it, well, i have anyway. no more. i'm going to write a little list of things i want to do over the next year - we'll see if they happen.

1. write a short story.
2. participate in an art show (showing my photo's in a coffee shop counts).
3. create a silk screen using photo emulsion.
4. figure out how to use my damn vintage polaroid camera - and start creating transfers.
5. participate in a triathlon.

that's good for now.

have all of you ever had the designated "popular summer single" permeate every fabric of your being? you know what i’m talking about – it’s that one song that is everywhere – cars roll by blaring it from their speakers, cute little boutique’s you shop at have it on heavy rotation, major radio stations plug it at every twist and turn...bars/clubs, etc. this time, more than most – i was really resistant to “promiscuous”, mainly b/c i HATE nelly furtado. she looks like one of those girls that’s beautiful but comes with high drama, and is terrible in bed. we all know the type. on the other hand, i LOVE timbaland – he has elevated missy elliott to repeated stardom with his amazing ability to produce the hell out of a song. so, i will say to everyone: i bought the single on itunes today. forgive me – i am not impervious to clever marketing schemes, and hypnotic beats.

lookout weekend

picture it: 1985 in san jose, it's hot and i'm on my diamond back bmx bike, riding to 7-eleven for a slurpy in the middle of the summer. i would listen to "lookout weekend" by debbie deb and spend hours roller skating up and down our driveway waiting for my debut at "aloha roller rink". at my inagural visit to the rink they played debbie deb, lisa lisa, and l'trimm - i would rex up and down the track with periodic trips to the snack shack. ah-the good old days.

now janet has released her own version of the debbie deb classic, and renamed it weekend

i've already downloaded it, and put it on my "work out" playlist. perfect music for getting that cardio going...

a mix for my friend, michael.

Everybody loves my Baby – Clarence Williams’ Hot Five
After I clean, run errands, and do my laundry – I love taking a long hot bath with the New Yorker and the Sunday Times. This track off the soundtrack from the film “Cat’s Meow” is one of my favorites while submerged and attempting to relax.

Your Ex-Lover is Dead – Stars
In my recent Candadian Indie obsession I came across the band, Stars. I love cellos, violins, and trumpets – this song always turns the street I’m walking on, into something magical.

Stars and Sons – Broken Social Scene
It’s hard for me not to create music videos in my head while listening to most music – when I listen to this song I always envision a hipster leaned up against the bar, his elbows resting casually on the edge facing out amongst of group of Broken Social Scene fans watching them perform on a small stage.

Watercolours Into the Ocean – Destroyer
Of their new album, this is my favorite track. My b/f (Jim) loves Dan Bejar…

You Don’t Send Me – Belle & Sebastian
Ah, trumpets. The anglophile in me always becomes nostalgic for London each time I hear this song. My coworkers and I one day had a game where you had to choose ONE band to create the soundtrack to your life….I chose B&S.

Take Ecstasy With Me – Magnetic Fields
My all time favorite band is the Magnetic Fields. This is the quintessential track by them.

July Jones – New Pornographers
I went to see the New Pornographers at Bimbo’s – and this song was amazing LIVE.

Nth Degree – Morningwood
If you watch the Logo channel – you’ll recognize this song.

Brother – Organ
I’ve always been obsessed with “the L word”. Organ was featured on an episode, so I bought their album – this track works particularly while walking in underground public tunnels waiting for the subway/muni.

Heaven – The Rapture
If I had a car, you’d find me with the windows down - blaring this track while paused at a stop light most likely doing the head-rock-forward-to-the-beat move.

Title and Registration – Death Cab for Cutie
This track is sensitive and subtle. It always puts me in a great mood, it lifts my spirits and encourages me to do my best. Create, explore, evolve, and integrate all things wonderful into my life.

Spellbound – Siouxsie and The Banshees
When I was a Junior in high school I had an acting class where each student had to lip sync to a songs of their choosing. Barbara, a goth girl and self identified lesbian performed the most amazing rendition to this song. I was completely blown away by her ability to overcome her shy and reclusive demeanor and dominate the stage with her obvious connection to the dark and beautiful power of this song. For the record, I did “I’ve got you babe” with my friend Erin Peters – we laughed the entire time, and looking back I can see how being “popular” made it impossible to engage in anything real.

Where Does the Good Go – Tegan and Sarah
There are some bands and songs that have lesbian appeal – this is one of them. I fall for them every time – yes, I even enjoy Ani Defranco. I think I’m part lesbian, and I’m fine with it.

Le Temps De L’Amour – April March
This song, and April March in general always reminds me just how great the French are….it has a distinctive vintage sound. In my personal rendition of the music video for this song – it starts with a camera pan of a small house party on the Cote D’Azur. It’s sometime in the early 60’s, and everyone is smartly dressed in slim black suits and ties – smoking, drinking, laughing, chatting, listening to records….

Si Paloma – Sun Kil Moon
Another driving / walking around song. Perfect track for a walk through a foreign city, or a drive down the coast…

Lazy Lover – Brazillian Girls
OK. So, I know the days of ambient songs are a thing of the past but sometimes I can’t refuse a nice casual relaxing song representative of a time where ecstasy was in abundance, and so was my affinity for taking it. Obviously a chapter now closed….

You’re my World – Cilla Black
This song is amazing. Just makes you want to open your arms and turn in circles in a large public space. Or, well, not.

moggin. it's fun, and fantastic. getting started, creating my page - harmonizing my music using MOM.

somehow i immediately became self conscious of all of my music when it was pulled out and broadcast for the rest of the world to see. still, i will remain true to my music tastes and stand behind artists like destiny's child (yes, i'm gay), and ani defranco (fine, i was also a uc santa cruz granola), the carpenters (i have a soft spot for folk), and the go-go's (chic bands rock).

[[hip hop - pop + folk] * indie] / shoegazer = me
