Well, I never threw a TV from a hotel window, just to see what sort of splash it would make plunging into the swimming pool below...

but that leads us to my most excessive rock and roll moment in the great city of Los Angeles: the time I over-partied and puked in Greg Dulli's hotel room toilet at the Roosevelt.

Let me give you the pertinent bullet points:

there was a Twilight Singers show. there was an open bar. i took advantage of it. there was an afterparty. the mini bar was raided. i took advantage of it. and then the alcomahol was expelled from my belly.

I wear it as a badge of honor. It's what you do when you're 21 and let loose in the streets of Hollywood. You get completely shithouse and try to party with (near/in the same room as) your idols and make an ass of yourself. GOOD TIMES!

we've all got stories. some may just be a little hazier than others. tell me yours. hit the comment section, yo.

In the meantime, this Afghan Whigs track is a live version of Debonair (fromt eh LP Gentlemen), taken from the legendary 4 hour show the band played in New Orleans on Thanksgiving night (in 1997, i believe). Sony serviced college radio with a 4-track live sampler of the show in 1998, and I did my part to usurp it into my own collection.

Who do I gotta harangue to get the full monty on this recording? anyone? i will also take the 1998 Viper Room Dulli Birthday show off yer hands ...

The Whigs were easily one of the best live bands on record, and I was lucky enough to catch them a number of times everywhere from Portland, to L.A. to London.

You can currently catch the Twilight Singers' Scott Ford, who has his own show on Little Radio every week. Episodes are available for download, and I would recommend tuning in - many guests including musical compadres Dulli and Mark Lanegan (who will be releasing their own joint on Sub Pop called the Gutter Twins). Think Steve Jones with better enunciation and no FCC.

Love on it.

I was a wee bit drunk in Vail after a fine day of skiing - aka "apres ski". A guy was sitting on a stool on the patio doing some acoustic Dan Fogelberg thing. After a particularly heartfelt version of "Longer Than" I went up to him and offered him $20 if I could play the next song. He took the cash and handed me his guitar. I launched into a rollicking version of "The Ballad of OJ Simpson". Not sure anyone understood what was going on or what I was singing about but I definitely rocked the house down until the guy grabbed his guitar back from me.

I've got nothing, but my wife faked yawning at John Lydon, then thumbed her nose at him, at a PiL show in '92 to which I had dragged her, prompting him to drop trou and show off his lily-white buttocks.
