See below to downloadAargh. I don't even want to talk about it.No ... really. I don't.Hrrmpf. Ok ... fine. So, I was lounging about aimlessly last Sunday evening when I noticed
Mike Watt was doing a final LA show that night prior to his
re-joining The Stooges on tour in Europe. Now, I've been wanting to see Watt again but then ... bam! ... I read that
Carla Bozulich was to be playing the venue as well (performing as "Satantic Masterpiece Theatre"). In short order I got myself together, arriving at
The Smell plenty early as big rigs parked props from the in-production
Transformers movie alongside my car.Once inside, I was told Bozulich was to come on second. Happy-go-lucky and with scads of time to blow, I strolled over to Little Tokyo and putzed around for a spell, arriving back at the club about 15 minutes before I was told Bozulich was to come on.Yeah ... well ... she was just wrapping up after having performed for the past hour. A happy camper I was not, especially having been so bowled over by her performace as the opener for
A Silver Mt. Zion the
week prior. From what I heard, Bozulich rocked The Smell that evening. Alas, the only recording I'm able to share with you here today is from her openeing for ASMZ. This, however, is no booby prize: especially gobstopping to those in attendance was her sensual meanderings through the crowd during "Baby, That's the Creeps." Luckily for you who weren't there, the song is hot too. Those new to Bozulich will likely affiliate first with her cover of
Low's "Pisssing" her arragement of the traditional "Steal Away" (with what seems to be a huge instrumental intro not on the album). These tracks are pure sonic gold ... enjoy what, for me, was one of the best concerts of the year.

LabelPS, don't be shy to crank it up a bit. I mastered this recording on the conservative side.PPS, this is the spooky/David Lynch-y manifestation of Carla Bozulich, not her older alt-country work with
Geraldine Fibbers.PPPS, yes, The Smell does ... especially in the alley of urine and vomit.
