Ole! Tarantula, Indeed

I've only listened to it once through, but I think Robyn Hitchcock's new cd, Ole! Tarantula, will quickly become one of my favorite new releases. I always find Hitchcock to be an oddly compeling artist, with his distinct voice and often weird-ass lyrics.
This one is much more of a rock record than his last album, 2004's Spooked. This time around Hitchcock enlists The Venus 3 to serve as his backing band, a group made up of Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey, and Bill Rieflin, or, as Hitchcock describes them, "3/4s of the Minus 5 and half of R.E.M." Together they create a strong collection songs (sorry, that's all I can manage after listening to it only once!). The final song on the cd, "N.Y. Doll" is a moving tribute to Arthur Kane, former bassist for The New York Dolls.Check out Ole! Tarantula, I don't think you will be disappointed.
