so funny story...

    I Don't Wanna Grow Up
so i was doing what i do best last night, procrastinating. this time i decided to research the cold war kids. i saw that they had a show coming up near me (i.e. 2 hours away but whatever), which made me really excited. i'm so glad it's touring season again! but in the process of all this research, i downloaded some of the cwk's eps on their website (the free ones). there is this one really good song they covered by tom waits (which is imbedded below for your listening pleasure...) that i couldn't stop listening to. it's really fantastic. anyways- the point of this story is that this morning i was flipping through spin and i saw that the exact same song was on the 'songs you should download right now' (or something to the likes of that) list. so apparently, i can pick 'em well.besides that, i promised a cyhsy review (a bit overdue, i know…), and that's exactly what all you moggers will get. well first of all, all of the reviews in publications that i've read all comment on the fact that the first song is practically unlistenable, which is something i agree with. i'm not exactly sure what they were trying to do with the title track, but it's unfortunate, because if you can sit through it, it's a pretty good song. but it does give you a scare when you first listen to it because you either think something is wrong with your cd/player or you're afraid that the entire album is going to be like that. (both of which i thought... i'm a sucker.) anyways, what i've done on my ipod is replaced the first track with the live fall tour ep version of some loud thunder. that way, i get the experience of the song, (albeit not the full, annoying experience). as for the rest of the album, i think it’s a really good sophomore record. it’s a little darker than their first, but i really see it as a progression from where the first album left off. there are a few stand out songs. i really enjoy: satan said dance, under water (you and me), and yankee go home. if you’re on the fence about buying the album, do it. even if you don’t like it at first, it will grow on you, so don’t give up! that’s all for now. love,charlottep.s. if you don’t have the new of montreal album- invest in it. completely sublime. p.p.s. and if you’re looking for some nice easy poppy music, download someone still loves you boris yeltsin. they’ve got some really well crafted beautiful and fun songs. check out pangea and oregon girl. listen away!

  1. Jack Still says Some Loud Thunder sounded horrible on my computer, but when I burned it to a CD and played it in my car it started to really grow on me. I still have to wonder what the hell they were thinking though.
