Worth Trying

Broken Social Scene is really good to listen to while reading Bukowski in your room. Two Gallants is excellent for driving long distances. This one artist whose name never found me, but sounds like a combination of Sean Hayes and Devendra Banhart is superb while trying to find parking in the Mission while looking for a burrito. Try it. It will make your passing days bearable.

Brothers Of The Head

This weekend I saw a really interesting and disturbing film called "Brothers of the Head." It tells the tale of conjoined twins Barry and Tom Howe who are plucked from obscurity in England during the 1970's by a music promoter who grooms them into a punk rock group (Bang Bang). Unsettling in so many ways, the film is depicted as a documentary infused with commentary from their sister and bandm

Pretty Pretty Pistols

So last night I went to 330 Rich, home of Popscene (one of my all time favorite venues circa 2002) to see Pistols Will Air. PWA is an electronica trio located in SF and you can find them here:www.mog.com/pistolswillairReminicent of what Air would sound like if they were based in California instead of France, PWA provides a much needed layer of ambient yet interesting sound to a city overflowing w

Three wishes!

This morning on the way to work I was litening to The Unicorns and realized how much more I liked them than the Islands. I know, I know two different bands but with a lot of the same members. Then I was thinking about how much I liked the Murder City Devils as opposed to Pretty Girls Make Graves and...once again MCD is way better than PGMG (one similar member totally different, but whatever)...O

Right now I am moving from my apartment in the Inner richmond to the Lower Haight. This has been a stressful move due to my own procrastination, random bad luck and unfortunate timing, but I have faith that the future benefits will outweigh the iminent discomfort. So last night when I was packing I stumbled across my favorite DVD of all time; "The Doors: Live in Europe 1968." 'Live in Europe' tel

Got to Get Yourself Into It!

The Rapture's newest album, "Pieces of the People We Love," is upbeat, poppy, slick with overtones of disco, but still manages to preserve their original raw, rock beat which inspired me from the beginning. Somewhat of a balancing act, The Rapture has perpetually, seemingly struggled with blending the electronic with the acoustic. This combined with Luke Jenner's peircing, sometimes beautiful vo

I was shopping at Amoeba about a year ago and for some strange reason had some extra cash so I decided to buy a CD based on name alone in the sale section. Then, right in front of me, I saw The Lurkers. You really can't beat that. A few days passed and I totally forgot about The Lurkers who sat in my kitchen next to my stereo. Then when finally decided to find out how lurky they really were, I

My friend calls me last night and asks if I want to go to a free show at the Great American, and since I am always down to go to a free show no matter who is playing, I didn’t even bother to ask. As it turned out, Black Fur, Sean Na Na and The Hold Steady were performing. Along with the free ticket, we were also given back stage passes; which needless to say, was dope. We got there around 8, rea

Cafe Revolution

Last night I was driving around the Mission district with a friend trying to find a new place to eat. We stumbled upon Cafe Revolution, a quaint, sidewalk cafe infused with live music, wine, cigarette smoke and eccentric folk. We chose a tiny table right next to a fire hydrant about four feet away from the Luke Westbrook Trio. They consisted of an accordian player, vocalist and stand up bassist
