I have been getting showered with good music news in the last couple weeks. Best of those news are evolving from my favorite Scottish bands obviously. First, a Travis date announcement in Istanbul and then a brand new EP coming from The Twilight Sad phenomenon.
A 6-track mini album entitled; 'Here, It Never Snowed, Afterwards It Did' is to be released in June 9th through FatCat Records. That very tasteful record label is now streaming the full EP on their official website.

Track List: 1. And She Would Darken The Memory 2. Cold Days From The Birdhouse 3. Here, It Never Snowed. Afterwards It Did 4. Mapped By What Surrounded Them 5. Walking For Two Hours 6. Some Things Last A Long Time
Four known and adored tunes of the band; And She Would Darken The Memory, Cold Days From The Birdhouse, Mapped By What Surrounded Them, Walking For Two Hours are displaying us a new face of The Twilight Sad with the new arrangements quite different from the original versions. Less noise, more ambiance, strings embraced with James Graham's super devastating voice and intensive 'sine qua non' shoegazing elements. The title song is a brand new one following the classical path of band in the noisy sound rotation. Final track is a successful cover of a Daniel Johnston and Jad Fair track: 'Some Things Last A Long Time'.
As mentioned strings are taking an outstanding place in the whole record. Thanks to those other Scottish talents contributed to the album leaving us worship the sound. Laura Mcfarlane of the wonderful My Latest Novel is playing violin and Campbell Mcneil of LEGENDARY Aereogramme is playing bass. The whole record is engineered by none other than Iain Cook!!! It is- for me - indefinably amazing seeing those Aereogramme lads at work again, after they unfortunately announced their disbanding last year! Even better is that they are collaborting with their fellow Twilight Sad boys...
I could go on praising and praising like this for hours and for pages. Instead I will leave you enjoy the album hopefully with a deep satisfaction and I will do the same.

Great post, thanks for the heads up!

Yes, The Twilight Sad was in my top 10 releases from last year. Glad to hear this. Thanks Champers! By the way, I'm guessing you've seen "This Is England" because of your avatar, was it any good?

Cheers, everyone!
Dach, 'good' is not a strong enough word to describe how incredibly awesome the movie was. Well to me, at least. In fact I have been calling it as a modern masterpiece ever since I caught it in the festival last year. A very sad true story being told without exploiting humanist feelings. Have you seen Dead Man's Shoes? If so, This Is England is from the same director and even better! That kid is going to be big, something tells.

I love it. That is the same song with the live recording you sent me before, isn't it?
About Travis, I think I will have to cancel my vacation plans for June. =)

Yup, that is the one. And I am getting tickets first thing in the morning. Ticket #1 shall be mine. As a certificate to prove how geek I am. -nods-
