... great review of winehouse's soph-moe effort by David Marchese on salon.com:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"Amy Winehouse's second album is a ballsy, brassy, neo-soul affair with enough surly attitude to stand down a ship full of sailors. That it also happens to have been made by a tattooed 23-year-old Jewish Londoner with a beehive hairdo only adds to its unexpected charm. Winehouse's hu

Not-so-secretly, I would love for any and all of my favorite 90s-meltdown artists to have stunning comebacks. Perhaps wishful thinking. However, I think these artists brought some much need pathos to pop-music. I also think these artists tap into the 60s / 80s references so common in the music of today. Highly recommend given some ipod-spins to these artists if for no other reason that a momen

It appears a stray Decemberist got lost on the way to Scarborough Fair and has stumbled into the Idol juggernaut. He appears to be headed for planet Ubiquity as we speak. I can't wait to hear more tracks. If I have any reservations about Herr Mika, it's that his music is a

i actually kinda dig this song... back in '04 - when the stefani solo hype-machine steam-rolled music media - i'd sorta hoped she'd accomplish two thing with her solo outing: (1) it would be an all uptempo record w/ no whiny 'just a girl' / 'underneath it all' type no doubt tracks - building off of 'hella good' and 'it's my life.' (2) that she'd do a little 'girl-rap' Ã la debbie-harry in 'raptu

Like may other pop-minded indies, I was really looking forward to the Killers sophomore album. I managed to see them at the Virgin Fest in Baltimore, MD about a month before the album release. Based on "Sam's Town," "Read My Mind," etc. I thought we were going to have another great album... some synth, greatly improved stage performances, etc.And then... the monstrosity that is Sam's Town --> t
