can't believe i forgot this guy - Ray Lamontagne.

makes me want to jump a train west. or anywhere.
there's some kind of old, nostalgic feel to it. like smoke and rhythm and rusted rails.
train music.

been a while since i've checked this... or anything on the internet, really. being in college makes me realize how much i Don't enjoy staring at a computer screen.

anyway, i've been revisiting Zero 7 again, as well as Jose Gonzalez's solo stuff. i forgot how much i enjoyed his music. so mellow. it slows my heart a bit, which has been especially nice over finals week.

oh, and portisthead! i put it on my computer a while ago and it sat there untouched for a long time until about a week ago when itunes randomly selected It Could Be Sweet, sparking the portishead kick i've been on.

and somehow, that has also lead me to cocorosie... i'm still not 100% on how i feel about them.

Joanna Newsom.

It took me a looong time to really enjoy this woman's music. It was kind of the same deal I have with Bright Eyes..
great lyrics, but the delivery is rough for me to handle.

However, much to my delight!, I have finally come around.
To Joanna, at least.

Peach, Plum, Pear.
Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie.
En Gallop.

... lovely melancholy lullabies.

I would love to hear other people's opinions of her, and also any similar artist recommendations. I need some more female voices. I'm ridiculously picky. There are very few female artists I respect - Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Ani Difranco, Joanna Newsom, Vienna Teng, Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple, Neko Case, Nico... and I'm probably leaving out some others, but it's essential for me to listen to a softer voice every once in a while.
...really, I Need them.

i've gone away. don't call me, don't write

i am 100% ready for bonnaroo 07.
listening to Regina Spektor is putting me in the mood.

music is the greatest form of art.
don't get me wrong.. i can lose myself quite easily in a good film or a beautiful piece of art.
but not like music.

music.. mathematical, precise, perfect at revealing the simplest universal truths.

there's just something about being in this room - on the floor, back pressed to the wall, and a little sun coming in through the window - that somehow stirs that quiet place in my heart.

"okay."

i'm convinced.

The music of Iron and Wine expresses love better than any other.

so many songs about love are out there, but for me they only really capture infatuation.

Passing Afternoon.. Fever Dream.. Naked As We Came...

just a few that i feel put love into words perfectly.
i think love.

the feeling i get when i listen to it...
that's how i want my life to be.

nothing less of trustworthy.

on another note..

the new modest mouse, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank ... so good. i'm really liking We've Got Everything with james mercer.

go, listen.
