Emiliana Torrini's album 'Love in the Time of Science' was a horribly overlooked album. I'm sure some of you are familiar with her work, she has a fairly good following going - but I feel like she is deserving of much more notoriety. 'Science' was a great collection of songs - the instrumentation, production and vocals are full of life. Overall, the album is dark and beautiful with a few outright pop moments, such as "Unemployed in Summertime". My personal favorite track on the album is "Dead Things", which I'll post the music video for at the bottom of this post. The album was recorded at Neptune's Kitchen, which is the studio owned by Roland Orzabal of Tears for Fears. It's obvious that this was recorded there, because the production values are very much in line with his first solo-album and two of the later Tears for Fears albums, 'Elemental' and 'Raoul and the Kings of Spain'. Orzabal played many instruments on the recording, and you can even hear him chime in on back-ups at the end of "Dead Things". I wish that these 2 would collaborate on an album together, or start their own project - I think it would be beautiful.Torrini has been slammed with criticism from people who feel she sounds too much like another singer from Iceland named...Bjork. Yes, she has her moments - "Telepathy" on 'Science' easily sounds like it could've been an early Bjork song, but Torrini has enough talent and writing ability in her arsenal to set herself apart.
