Regina Spektor, 11-15 Nashville

p=. Regina Spektor at the Exit/In, Nashville, TNSold out. Really, really sold out. I managed to get a ticket standing outside in the rain from a couple from Memphis. The venue is only supposed to house 150 or so people (Eisley show in March got shut down for too many people)...but there had to have been more. Either way...she kicked ass. She started by herself with a keyboard and played 4 or 5 quieter songs (including Poor Little Rich Boy, where she played piano with one hand and banged on a chair with a drum stick with the other). Then the band came out and she played the faster stuff. She played pretty much the entire new album, Begin to Hope, and a lot of stuff that as far as I know hasn't been released. Regina was very shy and equally adorable. After a couple of songs, she (very nicely) asked everyone to turn off the flash, saying it unnerved and confused her. The crowd was massive and REALLY loud, the best I've seen at that particular venue. She had a huge smile on her face the entire performance.

  1. LadyC says She sounds like a great live act, I missed her a while back but am really impressed with her style and vocals without being a hardcore fan. Another artist you might like is St. Vincent who is touring with Sufjan Stevens at the moment. She is a member of Polyphonic Spree. Here is "her myspace":http://www.myspace.com/stvincent.

  2. Annick says I'm hoping she'll add Melbourne to her tour. And I second LadyC's St Vincent recommendation, esp if you like Regina, Jose G and Sufjan ...

  3. meghanlee85 says I was there too. Loved the show. It started a bit late. Exit/In Holds 450 people by the way. I'm doing a project on her for my class and I got the contract from her booking agent. Can you believe 450 people were packed in there? Unbelievable.
