so, a friend gave me this cd because i would "really like it." i now see that my friend knows nothing about me...

Because how on earth could he, or anyone else, think that I would like The Distillers' "Coral Fang?" I knew from note one that I wasn't going to enjoy it. However, I still gave it a whirl in case, just in case, something grabbed me. I remained ungrabbed, alas, and am now convinced that the phrase "assault on the ears" was made for this record. It should carry a warning label--"May cause massive bleeding from the ears."That said, I'm dying to know why my friend thought I would like this record. I figure either a) he knows absolutely nothing about me, zero, zilch, nada; or b) I am giving off some seriously misleading vibes. Neither one is particularly tasteful to me.I guess it's back to the drawing board as far as friends-who-get-my-musical-tastes goes.

  1. Pseudo Cyborg says I feel your pain. This happens often enough to me, but luckily there are the ones out there that _do_ "get" me. They make it worth it all. Besides, you can't possibly have the good without knowing what the bad is. At least that's how I try to qualify it.

  2. Rawkkiddoh says there might be a third reason, and that he liked the album so much he hoped you would too. I had a similar experience with a cd that I fell in love with. I burned it, and brought a copy over to my good friends house and told him, "Here is your next favorite cd." Next day he called me up and asked if it was a joke. I think sometimes you fall in love with a band, and expect those around you to do the same.

  3. brand X says Maybe in six months you will have a breakthrough with this album and realize that the person who gave it to you is the one person in the world who loves you the most.

  4. HalfManHalfMog says Your friend obviously need to look at your MOG page and see what albums you have. Because nothing in that list comes close to what The Distillers play. You might have to go "A Clockwork Orange" on your friend to teach him what music you do like.
