WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

jesus take the wheel, indeed

Odd reality: I'm pretty sad right now due to the death of my sweet grandmother. However, I can't listen to my old standbys for times like these. The Old 97's "Satellite Rides" was always a comfort, but even that is a bit too rough for me right now. Now, my mom came down here for my grandmother's funeral last week, and she brought some CDs she wanted me to hear, one of which was Carrie Underwood. Wouldn't ya know it...I gave ol' Carrie a spin and found that it's about the only music I can tolerate right now. I'm somewhat forcing myself to listen to other music because I do have a deep suspicion of anything involved w/ American Idol. I don't know. I just wouldn't have thought in a million years that Carrie Underwood's music would ever be my warm security blankie.

  1. dermahrk says I'm not ashamed (well, maybe a little..) to say that I am a big fan of hers. There is something in her persona, and especially in that voice, that touches me in new ways. Although I watch Idol, it's pretty much for the family experience. She's the only artist associated with the program whose music I purchased, and will continue to do so. My condolences about your grandmother.

  2. ivylander says I know the syndrome. The day after my father died - I was 15 - I bought a cutout LP by Sandie Shaw (a British pop puppet of the day) for $1.99 at Woolworth's. I played it nonstop for a week, four or five times a day. The music was insipid from start to finish, but at that moment in my life I needed to be in the aural equivalent of a dentist's waiting room. That album did the job perfectly. After a week or so, it was no longer necessary. I never listened to it again.
