This record doesn't pretend to be important. It's just plain fun.

I really do like Gwen Stefani's song "Cool." It reminds me of someone, and the sentiment behind it is nice. The strange 80s-ness of it doesn't hurt, either. Therefore, when I saw a copy of "Love Angel Music Baby" in a used music store I decided to buy it. And I'm so glad I did. Gwen Stefani does not try to be artistically important here, nor does she pretend that she has created something of great intellectual and emotional depth. She revels in her shallow lyrics, rips nearly all her style from the 80s in what can only be termed highway robbery, hell, she even samples "Fiddler on the Roof" and Notorious BIG. Like I said, she's not pretending like she's created something we haven't heard before, which is part of this record's charm. There is not a single song on this record that doesn't make me want to move and laugh. It's so light-hearted, and that feels good right now. So, Go Gwen. You keep ripping off the 80s, girl.
