Not sure how nobody has mentioned or uploaded this song... Ocean. I can't do it justice so do us both a favor and just listen to it below. It's a 10 minute guitar solo where John just has magic fingers. Just an incredibly beautiful song. If you haven't see the JBT live it's quite the treat. I've been lucky enough to see him at large venues as well as small (250 people) venues and he never ceas

I've been a fan of spoken word and Saul Williams for a long time. This song was the first Kanye song I heard and I dug it from the minute the drums drop in. Saul's verse at the end is just the icing on the cake.

So thanks to some help I was able to convert a few files into mp3 form. As I mentioned below, Roll My Blues Away is my favorite album of his. This is the opening track. Enjoy.

How nobody has posted here I can't understand. The Word is a pet project of John Medeski (of Medeski, Martin, Wood). His goal- create an all instrumental gospel album. The players; The North Mississippi Allstars, a 23 year old pedal steel slide guitarist named Robert Randolph and Medeski. The resulting album is incredible, dominated by a ridiculously talented Randolph. He grew up playing in t

Most musicians take a while to grow on me, Oliver had me within 2 seconds. The music, the instrumentation, his voice... everything pieces together just right. He is what got me into African music. I think I remember reading something describing him as "the Otis Redding of Zimbabwe," while I don't feel that's completely accurate I can definitely understand their logic. He has a smooth voice and

So my favorite album of his is easily "Roll My Blues Away." It is primarily instrumental with guest Kelly Joe Phelps singing on a few tracks (Phelps is another great singer-songwriter who plays acoustic slide guitar). Over the years Furtado has been singing more and more on his albums, and while he has a decent voice I feel that he is at his best when his fingers do the talking. Furtado is po...

A few years back I spent some time in Portland, Oregon and was introduced to these guys. They played the Laurelthirst, a local bar, every Tuesday and never let down. Their guitarist and mandolin players have possibly the fastest fingers I have ever seen. While their studio albums are great, if you are lucky enough to be in the Pacific Northwest they are definitely worth checking out live.

Not my favorite African musician (Oliver Mtukudzi- of whom all my music is mp4's... hence no music uploads) but definitely worthy of some acknowledgment. A dread locked guy from Senegal he was sort of taken under wing by Youssou N'Dour at the beginning of his career and put out some great albums ever since.

To add a little to the post below...A few years back Franti went to middle east to meet with locals and see first hand how the new American occupation of Iraq and older Israeli occupation of Palestine effects the lives of citizens. He filmed his encounters and assembled them into the documentary, "I Know I'm Not Alone." It's an extremely well done, powerful piece of film. While Franti lyrics ar

These guys are amazing. Who would think a group of old blind guys could be so incredible. They have great studio albums. Unlike the below post I haven't heard the Christmas Album, but "Spirit of the Century" is one of my favorite albums (Grammy winner) and "Higher Ground" is equally impressive (Robert Randolph on slide guitar throughout). Probably better known is "There Will be a Light" album w
