What do you listen to when you get bad news? I pulled the plug on my job this past week due to circumstances that got ahead of me, so am now looking for work. It'll be ok, as I'm able to combine some personal stuff me and the wife wanted to do into the job hunt.
Interestingly enough, I only experienced shock for a short time, and it was then that I couldn't listen to anything, but that only lasted for about a day, and I'm now back to my Neal Morse addiction at full volume in my car at 75 Mph (120Kpm for all you Canucks)
News that is not so great generates various responses in each of us, and music is a great solace.
I'd be really interested in hearing how you deal in such situations music wise.

My Trusted MOGs
It depends on the emotional reaction. If it gets me angry, then Nine Inch Nails' Broken EP is the thing I always go to first. I even posted about that a while back. That EP is 25 minutes of rage in its purest and most beautiful form, and I find that listening to it and screaming along always makes me feel better.
If it get me sad, however, then I don't have a real "go-to" thing. Dead Can Dance is great for pensive emotions, and their Spleen and Ideal album is one of the saddest things I've ever heard, from a purely musical standpoint. Genesis' "Looking For Someone" is also a very sad song, IMO. In fact, the whole Trespass album is really good for negative emotions.
Sorry about the job thing, sometimes, though, it's for the best, I believe. Good luck in the hunt!

I'm glad that you have such a positive attitude about the job hunt :^) When I'm down, I seem to gravitate towards Death Cab for Cutie and Iron & Wine ... don't ask me why ... maybe because they're more mellow ... I really don't know, but that's just weird little me. Best of luck to you!
