Mousey

Posted about 2 years ago

His nickname was Mouse. "Mousey" we called him. His Dad was the caretaker at the Mental institution that was located in our small town, and their family home was in the building somewhere too.

Mousey and I were friends. He was a little different I guess, because he didn't have many friends. But I liked him. We spent a summer changing the engine out of a 1957 Ford, and that was my introduction to auto mechanics.

I just found out that Mousey is no longer with us. It's fitting somehow that he was killed in a car accident. I don't really feel sadness, mainly because it was over 40 years ago, and I'm at the age now where I don't get surprised anymore when I find out a childhood friend has passed.

But the memory of that summer lives.

Here's to ya Mouse.

Pali T.W. Ka'aihue, of the Hawaii music group, Pali, wrote "Keli'i Slack Key" for a gone-far-away childhood friend. "I learned later that he had passed on having been involved in a car accident. The song is about the waves, the surf and good fun times, and is a dedication to my friend."

Yes indeed we all grow older, age wise anyhow. and our mortality is in question everyday. Nice song selection. Wind & Wuthering is IMO a much underappreciated release.
