I've had this urge for a while to convert my vinyl, or some of it anyway, to digital, and make it more shareable. And since recently I've been wanting to find new music apart from the Prog Rock I tend to listen to quite often, I thought I'd take another peek at the old stuff. I found Be Bop Deluxe, and was captured once again.

One thing I've noticed over the years is that often when I go back to the music I was weaned on (musically, of course) there are some real gems that shouldn't be allowed to just fade into history. We often leave them back there, but journeying back occasionally can be a musical awakening.

MOG's great for that. We can keep up to date on what's old and new. And I'll bet there's more than a few Moggers who have never heard of Be Bop Deluxe.

The band was formed in the 70's, never played Be Bop music, and drew influence from the likes of David Bowie and Pink Floyd. Bill Nelson, the leader, was far from being anamored by commercial success, and disbanded Be Bop eventually to pursue a solo career. His music can still be found today, with recordings as recent as 2006, maybe even later.

Here's one of my favorites from the album Sunburst Finish.

Enjoy
