WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Dream Theater

So I finally broke down and bought the DVD "Score," Dream Theater's twentieth anniversary 2 disc DVD set containing the entire "20th Anniversary World Tour" grand finale recorded live at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on April 1st, 2006 (nearly 3 hours of music - over 90 minutes of which was performed with a full orchestra). Some pieces of music should be purchased just because they exist, and this is certainly one of them. It's BIG music. It's complex. It's James Labrie (vocals) Mike Portnoy (Drums) John Petrucci (Guitar) Jordan Rudess and John Myung (Bass) at their very best.Portnoy directed this amazing video, and it's best listened to loud and in 5.1 if you can swing that.I'm not a big fan of Labrie, but in this concert, I was able to see his contribution better than before. And he gives the instrumental virtuosos lots of time to work out on their own. They are not your average rock band, so if you're looking for another bunch of guys who are able to string the more commonly heard chords together in yet another new but short lived presentation, these guys are not for you. But if you appreciate true musicianship that is not held back by the bonds of the music industry's lust for profit, then relax and be prepared to have your mind completely blown. Because at the end of this almost three hours of unbelievable musical machinations, you will be in awe. And, you can press replay. Here they are doing Metropolis. Give Labrie his time, cuz when he's done, it starts.Oh, and the first time you think it's over, it's not. Hang in.
