Wake up Call

Posted over 2 years ago

What a couple of weeks it's been! I've been leading a project at work to change our email product from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Exchange, and it's been a bear. Explains why I haven't been around these parts much these days.

Sometime during that time I also found a social networking site dedicated solely to Prog music. And while the plethora of Prog only music and prog lovers is an attraction for sure, they've got a long ways to go yet to catch MOG in both site maturity and community.

There's another discussion point I want to make here also, and it's that sites such as the one I found tend to give all artists, beginning and established, a fair kick at the can of notoriety. While that's a good thing as far as giving both a band and music explorers exposure to something new, I find it can also be somewhat problematic. Bands who are just starting out, or are not yet "discovered," tend to try just a bit too hard in one area or the other IMO.

For example, a Prog startup seems to want to scream "I'm PROG" from every riff, beat and vocal chord. But the pros need not raise their voice or show off their instrumental talent because the "Progness" is in the music, harsh or soft.

I figured yesterday that if I posted my question there about BPM, I'd get instant responses. But I got none. I posted it on MOG, however, and the result was instant (cheers Scotty) and my wayward ways have been healed.

There's a lot to be said about growing a social networking site. And a lot more when it comes to combining the networking to a specific topic.

MOG has done and is doing it right. Like growing a successful brick and mortar business, growing a web site requires time, determination, adjustments, and a consistent message.

"Wake Up Call" is another tune from my new found friends BPM. (thanks again Scot) And they're not Prog as far as I'm concerned. (Seems like my horizon is broadening)

Not sure what genre this fits in if it really fits any one. Seems more of a blend of genres. But who cares as long as you like the sound... and their sound could be habit forming IMO.

Once again, my sentiments echo those of Wiz.  This song is pretty darn good, whatever the genre.
