DC 5

Posted over 4 years ago
The insanity surrounding the Beatles introduction to North America didn't overshadow the introduction of another band. This was one that I believed would outlive the Beatles because in my opinion they could outplay and outsing them with their hard driving (for the time) rock tunes, gravelly voice (Mike Smith) and their addition of sax into the rock band sound. As it turns out, The Dave Clark Five have been relegated to the bars and night clubs of London, although the albums of them during the 'competition' with the Beatles can still be found. They still make me wanna dance.

  2. dermahrk says Due to the questionable business instincts of Dave Clark, who owns the rights to all of their recordings, the recordings of the DC5 have been unavailable for decades, other than one brief best-of double CD (which I'm lucky enough to own). Maybe their induction into the R&R Hall of Fame will convince Clark to finally release their product again. With Smith paralyzed and probably not long for this world I want to see him get a little respect. I think he's a great vocalist and the big selling point for this group, the rest of which are, IMHO, disposable. Thanks for posting this!

  3. capndad says You can still find the original vinyls out there, although they vary and are either mono or stereo. So if you're a purist, they're an option.

  4. wizillusions says Excellent post. Not sure that I agree totally with they could outplay and outsing the Beatles but they were of at the least their equal. Their sound was very distinctive. With songs like Bits And Pieces, Can't You See That She's Mine, Catch Us If You Can, Do You Love Me, Because, Glad All Over, I Like It Like That some of my favorites.
