Family - The Tie That MOGS
-
Artist:
We often speak (post) about the feeling of family here on MOG. It's true. At the peak of post season, whenever that is (it's not now) posts fly from one to another and multiply exponentially with comments that sire comments that sire more comments.
But how many of you have your real families here? Well, I know I Am (Chris) and his Mom lurk about here somewhere. Me? I have a brother who spies on my posts and a son who would love to make his mark, and has. Can you find him? Probably not.
But in an email I received from him today from Africa, he sent me a suggestion for a band he thought I'd like.
I don't like it at all. I love it. And I think the CD just might be out in my garage in a box somewhere as we're storing his stuff until he comes home again.
Thanks for the tune Sean! it Rocks! (how cool is that? We're 32 years apart in age, and brothers in music)

Man, I haven't heard I Mother Earth in years! That's a funk-tastic track. Kind of reminds me of The Roots of Coincidence by Pat Metheny Group.
Funny thing is, I was reading your post while listening to this track:
It has the following as a lyric: "Shake all the hands you see... can't you see they are your family."
I was wondering what the connection was. Then I saw the last line underneath the player.
Nice, I can't wait for my little dude to get bigger so we can commune over tunes like you have! Yesterday we were playing the soundtrack for Marie Antoinette and he kept asking to repeat Vivaldi's Concerto in G. What????
Quick Dharmachris, call 911!!!
yeah, that longhair classical stuff,, sheesh. it was a quick tempo piece, and I think he liked that as much as anything. He usually just rocks in his high chair to James Brown.
James Brown is good. But I'm more impressed by someone in a high chair requesting Vivaldis' Concerta in G.
My son joined MOG, but he has yet to post anything. I can relate to the musical bond with the kids. We are 33 years apart but we talk music all the time and he likes a lot of the same music I do- and we both turn each other on to new discoveries and new releases.
My daughter and I are 30 years a part and she picked up on my love for country music- so we talk that genre. There's no musical generation gap in our family. And that's exactly how I hoped it would be.
I like that Mother Earth. They are new to me too.
Cool post. It'll be interesting to see how todays real young ones turn out, as one of the first generations who did not have to reject their parents music. The young 'uns will also grow up in a place where they have (and expect) access to everything.
I mean if you were a youngster now, you might have a mom who was into Death Metal or a dad who was down with the Geto Boys..how are you ever gonna play something that scares them like Rock and Roll scared some of our parents? I'm sure they'll think of something..
My kids are still pretty young, haven't really figured out what they want from music yet. They like Freezepop, Kraftwerk, and The Dixie Chicks, if that's not a mix. I think that's a good sign right there, they're already so open to different sounds and styles. I just have to get the wife to stop listening to that easy listening station.
Easy listening is hard on the ears.
Amen. and it kills me when I change the station off of, I don't know, 3 Doors Down or whatever, and my kids all complain. Grr.
@ Cody B - I do find it funny how music can be accepted depending on where you are in life. capndad's been trying to shovel Porcupine Tree down my throat since 2003 and I'm still not into it that much. But every side project or something somehow related I've gulped down (Riverside, Blackfield, etc) without any complaint. Christmas this year I received an external hard drive loaded with some of his stuff and its making up 75% of a playlist I can only ever play when the headphones are plugged in [to avoid pissing off the wife.... a sure sign that its good music in our relationship unfortunately :) ]. However, in response to the last part of your post ("how are you ever gonna play something that scares them like Rock and Roll scared some of our parents? I'm sure they'll think of something..") I gave him four pieces of music that might do it :) He can blog/mog about them when he gets to it and lose all of you as friends I'm sure :)
capndad - hi. 'Tis me.
