Battered Friends and Blessings

There was a time when I was completely self absorbed. The world rotated around me. The stars aligned every night just for my benefit. I was unaware of what was happening anywhere except for the immediate perimeter within my line of sight.
Don't get the idea that I'm here on a self praise sermon with this one. Far from it. I just spent the evening with people with drug adictions. People going through divorce. People trapped in alcoholism, out of work, grieving, being sued by former spouses for more. And on and on. I'll not tell you where I was because I'd be betraying a trust.
They are my friends. And they're going through hell on earth right now. And tonight their troubles hit me like a ton of bricks. Right in the heart.
In our news, we have a gang war going on. There have been 11 shootings in the past 15 days in our fair hamlet. One was a woman, murdered while driving her car with her 4 year old child in the back seat.
My heart is heavy folks. I believe in God, and so I turn to Him to lift up friend and stranger alike who are battered and weighed down. I know He can help. I know that sometimes we're called to bear the load, while at other times it is lifted.
I don't try to make sense of the differences because I am called to just trust.
Here at MOG we gather and are getting to know each other on the basis of what we see fit to reveal. But we also know that occasionally we hurt.
I pray for you all.
Blessings.

Sending good thoughts your way. Life sure can throw so many "monkey wrenches" in our way we stumble and fall, yet there is the spark in us that keeps telling us, it will be ok. And I believe it will. I am going through my own private hell.
I have hope.
Very sorry to hear that Kori. You'll be at the top of my list. Hang in there.
sigh ... the times are terribly depressing right now all over the place. It's time to watch closely over our family, friends and neighbors, that's for sure!
When times are tough I will watch "The Passion of the Christ" or simply meditate on it. That always puts things in perspective.
Indeed Ann.
No matter what happens we must rely on our faith to pull us through.
Be safe and take care, everyone...
It's always the toughest question to answer when someone who doesn't believe asks in derision, "Oh yeah, if there's a God, then how come he let's kids get born with autism, and mothers murdered, and kids committing suicide?"
