WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Sad Sad Movie

Posted 10 months ago

I can't remember the last time I saw a sad movie. Oh wait, maybe it was Titanic. That WAS sad wasn't it?

No, I tend towards spy/CIA stuff. Comedy's don't even do it for me usually, but I think that's because most of the releases labeled as such are pretty much so juvenile in nature that I just don't relate.

Actually, I don't really relate to any movie except maybe sad ones. Maybe that's why I don't watch them. And what are movies for anyway but to escape the sadness called life? I'd much rather be planning an attack on a terrorist hideout or trying to figure out the Matrix than watch lovers split up or dogs die.

But that's me. Don't girls like to cry at movies? Why is that?

I once went to a movie with my son when he was barely a teenager. He invited me to join him and his friends, and because of that I felt so honoured that I couldn't say no. It was great until the extended sex scene.

In other movie memories, I once sneaked out of my house as a small boy and went to see Mary Poppins. Not because I wanted to see that movie, but because I wasn't alowed to go into theaters. Imagine my horror when I exited the place and there was my Dad waiting for me. These days I watch most release in the comfort of my own home, especially since wife bought me a Blu Ray player for Christmas.

But I've babbled enough about this. I love movies. I collect them, watch them, and keep track of what's coming out next.

My favorite, I think, was Gladiator with Russell Crowe.

How about you?

I'm with you on Gladiator. Sad, but very well acted and well worth seeing more that thrice. As far as a favorite movie - there isn't one -that changes daily. I've got more movies than I care to admit. I've got a 65" HD TV with the requisite surround sound and dude, I'm in heaven!!!

Mitchy, isn't that the one where the bad guy forces a nail through his hand. Great scene.

My favorite movie goes way back to the original "The Day The Earth Stood Still". After that "The Lord Of The Rings " Trilogy. Then for fun The Beatles "Hard Days Night" and "Help". Also "Quadrophenia". Not usually into what is the most popular with the oscars, and never watch any awards shows (Grammy's or Acadamy Awards).

It was great until the extended sex scene. What was that movie?

Gladiator/Lisa Gerrard.  Great movie, even better sound track (when I saw the pix above, I half expected to hear "Now We Are Free" or "Elysium").

I'm a low-brow comedy type (e.g., Shrek, Dumb & Dumber, Stripes, Caddy Shack, et al, ad nauseam), though the only films I see in theater are those whose cinematogrpahy I expect will blow me away.  LoTR series is a fine example.  Saw the first one nine times in theater (yeah, I know, "get a life").

I'm a sucker for consiracy/CIA/military/renegade/action movies -> I loved A few good Men (courtroom drama), The Sentinel, The Good Sheppard, The Bourne Identity and the 2 movies that folloed it, Basic (Travolta & Samuel L. Jackson), and Breach -> Full metal Jacket was good ->

as for sad movies...'The Ultimate gift' was good, 'Touched' -> 'The Kingdom' with Jamie Foxx -> 3:10 to Yuma was great ->

I've cried at only one movie in my whole life, and that was Lord of The Rings 3.

Can't name one, sorry. I can say though that my preferences are somewhere between American indie, and Asian and European films.
